Which is the best washine machine?

Our washing machine has finally given up the ghost just weeks before Christmas and the new baby comes!

Hi I would highly recommend a Bosch. You can pick up a decent Bosch for under £250. For e.g. check this one on Co-op electrical. I bought a similar model 4 years ago for over £300. Never had a problem yet despite the machine being used 4-5 times a week.
  • Bosch would also get my vote, excellent for value, reliabilty, wash performance and energy rating, avoid servis and zanussi nothin but trouble!

At the moment I would go for one of the Hoover machines, they are AAA rated have a 7.5kg capacity (brilliant when the new nipper comes along). The HNF6147 would be my choice. It is about £280 in currys, but use the currys20 code to get 20 quid off.

and check whether you can get another 2-4% off by ordering via a cashback site

(nb. I can recommend Neff for quality and reliability, but they don't nowadays compare very favourably pricewise)

I would personally recommend a Bosch, though I know they share the same problems with all others brands. Nothing will be perfect, and all will be as expensive to repair.

THe only advice I would give is to buy from somewhere sensible. I bought through John Lewis, paid the same as I could find anywhere online or on the high street, and have received exceptional customer service.

    Hi
I would recommend Miele, I bought mine 3 years ago and it came with a 5-year guarantee and for another £100 the guarantee became 10 years. At £20 for each extra year I thought it was worth it. Although normally I never ever get extended warranty things.

I tried John Lewis but it was a new model which they didn't have in at that time and at first they said they would arrange it direct, then said they weren't allowed to sell new machines while they had the current ones in stock. (As this one wouldn't have been going into the shop but direct to me, this seemed a bit daft) Anyway I found out that Frasers in Glasgow had them and phoned my order through. About 10 minutes later I had a call back from another member of their staff who said "James" had forgotten to tell me of their current offer - if you were spending over a certain amount you could have either a Panasonic vacuum cleaner or a Bosch reservoir iron free! (can't remember what you call the irons but they have a huge water tank separate which means you don't have to keep filling the iron up with water). All I was asked to pay was £5 postage for the gift.

I've got a Bosch Logixx that's done practically daily service for the past 2 years with nary a complaint. It's quiet, does what it's supposed to do but doesn't have any fancy long lists of programmes which nobody uses. I got it at a 20% discount because it had a scratch on the side! Try looking on this site for some more advice on washing machines, who makes what brand, and the personal views of a washing machine repair man - he sounds pretty sensible to me:

Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.
  • HI
Im looking for a new washer and may be tempted to go for the Bosh 1200.

If say, over the net £249, would the shop be able to come close? (If bought at currys/co-op)? Any disadvantages to buying over the net rather than the shop?

    Anyone for extended warranty? Around £75 for 3yrs & £130 for 5.

    Thanks
