Mobile and GPRS/Web while in France ?

Hi,
I have search back a fair way and cant seem to find what I am looking for.
Just before Christmas I am going out to France for 3.5-4 Months.
I will have no Landline out there, I will take my Newly negotiated Orange Mobile out there
Is my best option for phone and web access, a PAYG sim from a French provider ? and will these alow GPRS or Highspeed data access for my laptop ?
Does anyone know if a 3G PAYG Phone with Data is available over there yet ?

When you take your GPRS-enabled mobile abroad you obviously leave your home network and roam onto the foreign one. But you don't need to change your GPRS settings, just leave them as you would use them at home. I used my Voda mobile in the US no problem for internet access to my laptop just like I do here.

Check the per-megabyte rates obviously, and if you are in fact going there semi-permanently why not try getting a local SIM if your handset is unlocked. Be warned though the concept of a free or near-free SIM seems rare outside the UK.

I know  that the GPRS roaming will work over there, but I didnt want to get stung for International/roaming call charges at the same time ?

I was thinking more along the lines of another sim or phone to use for Data and voice calls  on a French network.
I was unsure whether they did decent Mobile Web access on a PAYG basis over there ?
