Your OH is charging unnecessarily for new shower heads then. Typical tradesman, quick fix and onto the next job regardless of the cost! Limescale will dissolve when the correct chemicals are used, shower head or central heating boiler, it makes no difference.

Learn some manners and not make scathing remarks without facts! You have no idea what you are talking about. SOME heads made by Triton DO NOT clear with limescale remover and you CAN cause damage to the shower unit. For you information my OH does not charge for shower heards as he works for a LHA who specify that the heads have to be changed. Do not be so quick to have a go a trades people until you know all the facts.

I could say the same to you, as you previously stated:

Try changing the shower head first. They tend to clog up. Do not try cleaning as this tends not to work.

    which is utter rubbish!

Ooh Expresso, must take issue with the phrase 'typical tradesman quick fix and off to next job'

Would you rather pay £40+ p/h so the tradesman can watch the showerhead in the descaler? Now that would be a way to cut down my driving and boost my profits.

Or would you rather be told to descale it yourself and be charged for the advice whilst I trot off leaving it unfixed?
Mine needed a new fan so that must be whats wrong with yours:D

Well as this is a money saving site, this advice is what I objected to:

I have never come across a shower head that could not be cleaned, so to state "Do not try cleaning" and buy another one is not very helpful advice. Surely the point of asking on here, was so as not to pay a tradesman.

I didn't take issue with that merely your assuption that a typical tradesman would just fit a new parts for a quick buck. It depends on the cost of the parts versus the tradesmans time, quite often the most cost effective course is to fit new parts. Most of the professional tradesmen I know have more of an issue when people charge money to change parts that are not needed and don't fix the problem.

Unfortunately many tradesmen don't spend time diagnosing problems and do simply replace parts to see if it cures the problem. Obviously not all tradesmen do this but in garages for instance, it's very common to simply keep replacing parts until they find the problem. Yes time is money but these parts fitted end up on the invoice because they don't remove them if they were unnecessary! Perhaps it was a bit of a generalisation but asking on here was presumably to save the OP money.
