Hi,
Recently had a few probs (AND STILL AM) with stuff on my 'puter that slows it up.
I am now running EWIDO security suite, MRU blaster, and Zone alarm but I think that I also have XP firewall as well. I used to have AVG but don't run that at the mo cos I thought it might conflict with Ewido.
Is this correct?
Should I be running all of these?
I also run ADAWARE from time to time but hopefully MRU blaster will do away with the need for that cos MRUs were the problems that it kept finding.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Hey riz
Maybe it could be a bad stick of RAM, just a thought...0 -
the important thing is to look at what programmes are running at startup. This is the most common cause of computers running slowly. To many cpu chugging progs will eventually slow you down. take a look there and let us know if there's anything you dont recognise and post it here.0

Thanks for that.
Had a read-up on the probs caused by bad Mem chips and, I must admit that I have never suffered a BSd or any of the othjer symptoms associated with bad mem.

Its just that the major problem you have is slowness, maybe its the cause
I mean I could sort out your PC via remote assist, but as I dont know what problems you have by not seeing your PC its just another suggestion as is all other Techie posts, I mean they are only suggestions and nothing 100%.

Well, EWIDO is supposed to be compatible with AVG, see here. MRUs won't slow your PC down, now will they? Don't worry about them. Run ONE firewall, NOT two.
What symptoms make you say your PC is running slow? When is it running slow? Is it slow to boot? Slow to start programs? Slow to run programs? Slow 'net access?

Hi stephen,
!st you say that MRU's wont slow the machine down but when I run adaware the only 'critical' finds it makes are MRUs and when it quarantines them my system works more efficiently (quicker).
Before the set-up that I have my machine ran a lot slower and in particular when trying to retreive Emails from yahoo. The blue 'Loading' bar would go all of the way to the end then just hang.
Reading an email takes about 15mins.
I would explain that I was having this prob before I reformatted my c drive and installed Xp pro. I was running ME but the computer had several problems so I thought - reformat anyway and whilst I am at it install XP.
Now there is a driver install problem. It refers to Via Bus Master IDE drivers but I have D/Ld the 4 in 1 set and to no avail. I've tried to discover which driver or how to correct fault but I am, quite frankly, lost on this one.
My system is an 850 Athlon with 384 Meg Ram with a 40 gig HD.
Do you have any suggestions other than the bin?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0
