recently applied to renew my son,s dla,he is currently on high rate care+mobility, since APPLYING 4 YEARS AGO,MY SON HANST GOT ANY BETTER,IF ANYTHING HES GOT WORSE,AS HE WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM,got a letter 2 weeks ago saying they were dealing with our claim, then today get a letter saying they have contacted our gp for a report, are they clamping down on claims or dont they believe what i told them? as last time they didnt contact our gp,the 1st time we claimed,we got middle rate care, then got social worker to write a letter saying he was regsitered blind, and they up it to high rate care, should i be worried about this gp report request or do they do this with certain claims?????

I wouldn't worry-have you spoken to your GP so he is aware of the contact coming (this really does help!) They don't go on diagnosis but on what care he needs, providing you were clear in demonstrating that on the form then the contact with your GP is probably just to verify that in his knowledge, what you have reported is true.He may say that he confirms the illness etc but doesn't know about actual care. It's not that they don't believe you but they do seem to check with the doctors most of the time these days-so it's not just you!
My GP never sees my son (also Autistic) as he is remarkably healthy and he sees a specialist for his other problems. I made this clear on his form-and they contacted the specialist instead. My latest claim was settled within 3 weeks which I thought was incredibly quick and hope yours is too.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
we usually see my gp just for my son,s epilepsy ,when hes had a large fit and needs his medication upped, they have had my forms for loner than 3 weeks now(just over 3 weeks) and once they have heard from the doctor it will be 4-5 weeks,so iam a bit worried about thisI My GP never sees my son (also Autistic) as he is remarkably healthy and he sees a specialist for his other problems. Don't worry as they do this regulalry and doesn't mean they don't believe you but just want medical evidence rather than claimants' evidence. I think SuziQ's right. You should let your GP know as they often make cursory remarks on the questionnaire sent out by the DLA unit without realizing the significance of not giving full details.
Additionally decisions can take up to 55 working days so again this is nothing to worry about.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -
Hi Peediedj,
Am I correct in thinking your son has a VP Shunt (previous thread) My hubby has just had his DLA renewal and they requested a report from his GP, as well. Was not a problem as GP is well aware of hubby neuro condition. Your son's GP will be fully aware of your son's condition. Never needed a GP's report the first time. Don't worry (I know easier said than done)0 -
yes my son has a vp shunt, cerebal palsy, autism,is registered blind, severe epilepsy, learning difficluties, right hemiplegic, also has irregular bowel movemtns, casuing him to take lots of strong laxatives, cant walk very far,not say more than 10-12 words,gp knows all this as he has seen numerous times especially after a seizure when he,s usuallu vommitting for 7-8hrsFROSTYFRECKLE wrote: »Hi Peediedj,

I would advise a visit to your sons GP asap.make sure he/she is fully aware of his care/mobility needs, its not unusual for them to contact a gp especially if you have given the gps details as opposed to say a consultantswe usually see my gp just for my son,s epilepsy ,when hes had a large fit and needs his medication upped, they have had my forms for loner than 3 weeks now(just over 3 weeks) and once they have heard from the doctor it will be 4-5 weeks,so iam a bit worried about this
new claims and renewals can and often do take as long as 12/13 weeks0 -

Hi Peediedj,
I remember you talking about your son before. We found it strange as well the DLA asking for a report from my hubby's GP, we think it is because the GP has the reports from all of the consultants my hubby sees, I suspect it is the same for your son. We received confirmation of my hubby's award approx three weeks after being informed they wanted a GP's report (Blackpool dealt with the claim). I hope everything goes smoothly.0 -

There's absolutely nothing to stop you obtaining your own evidence from his former consultant or anywhere else for that matter. Additionally you can always ask if they'll defer decision making if you think his new one will provide a reportI'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -
