The rumour is that Fortis would be interested in the Dutch icesave deposits.
A seperate operation to that of the UK.

Why is it that they're only interested in the Dutch deposits? Why has every single other savings account (KE, Heritable, B&B, Northern Rock, and now Icesave dutch) has been simply transferred over to new owners, but the UK Icesave savings have to be FSCS compensated?
  • Presumably because KE, Heritable, B&B and Northern Rock were all uk based banks, or in KE case had a uk based subsiduary. Icesave didnt have a uk arm to nationalise..Their government simply nationalised Landsbanki and run off with our money!

Well it was only a rumour. It seems the Dutch have lent Iceland the money to compensate the icesave savers in Holland.

The other saving accounts were transferred over to new owners because all the banks mentioned were British companies therefore the FSA had the power to make the transfer. Dont forget that it is not just a case of handing over the accounts the money has to be handed over too. In the case of BB Heritable and KE the Government have a good chance of recovering most of the savers money from the assets of the companies.

if we dont look after our own money and worries.... I doubt the government would be bothered. We put our hard earned cash not on a bet. It was a FSA regulated institution.

I am very closely following FACEBOOK, moneysupermarkt, www news, and moneysavings experts!!

We all ICESAVERs, should gather up. I am hearing constantly that there are ~300,000 icesavers. However, if you see the actual no. of ppl reading these threads... it is very low. I wonder what ppl are doing then??

I will also wait by monday. And if there is no SOLID lifeline for us... I think, we shud go and knock no. 10 Downing street.... or atleast do something!!!!

You did notice that the news item related to Guernsey?
  • Really hope that this isn't used as some kind of pseudo template, yes we were told we would not loose any of our hard earned. Just hope that Mr Darling keeps to his promise

It can't be used as a template as Mr Darling has a big fat zero to do with the islands(Guernsey/IoM). They are crown Dependants with their own parliament and thus it would be Deputy Charles Parkinson, Treasury and Resources Minister, States of Guernsey, responsible - name taken from http://www.gov.gg/ccm/treasury-and-resources/homepage-articles/landsbanki-guernsey-information.en. for the Isle of Man check out http://www.tynwald.org.im/

They are not part of the FSCS/FSA and have their own regulatory body and no comensation scheme at-all..

It's as likely a template as Mr Darling saying 'the dutch aren't paying so why should we'..
