i do that too lol. trick is to only take a set amount with you. i budget for one night out a month now (with a limit) and when its gone its gone! it is quite hard sometimes but when you see your debt going down and your savings going up its worth it! i think im getting tighter the more i save lol

Well that's a start! At least you don't have to worry about eating and keeping a roof over your head! Well done for being so sensible in the first place.

We all have to enjoy ourselves sometimes, and we all do it differently. I often go out with my boyfriend and his mates, and whilst i'll spend under £20 on the night out, he'll get through £60 with no trouble. But i only need 3 glasses of wine a packet of ten Marlboro Lights to keep me happy, whilst he'll manage to drink much much more (and it's still usually me that falls over!! :rotfl: ) then eat a few Subway sarnies and a kebab!

Occasional trips to the local lap dancing club don't help either. I wondered if that's where some of your money went :p

    Well....it was a stag do!

Well that's pretty good then - 6 presents to buy, a fiver each = £30, still £60 left over. As everything else is paid for and you have plenty of food in you have a decent amount of money left to have a good, frugal, christmas... Things aren't so bad!

Pop over to the freebies board to look for stocking fillers to send off for. Also try to make presents that don't cost much- chocolate truffles are yum, as well as other homemade sweets. Or you could plant a bulb eg hyacinth into a nice pot (from somewhere like Wilkos or QD). There's loads of cheap things to make. With the food you have in you'll prob have money left over at the end of the month. Don't be hard on yourself, it was a one- off and just shows you're human. Put it down to experience!

  • you could always see if you could boost your income by selling unwanted items and offering to babysit, wash the car, etc etc

failing that you could always put vouchers for things in peoples cards. i've put in babysitting vouchers for my sis as well as getting her a little present

Have a look at shop but don't drop - there is a thread on there on magazine subscriptions for about a fiver for three months and some of them have a handbag worth £30 free when you order, Imperial leather shower and bath stuff worth over £20, hair products etc etc,

    I have saved a fortune!

It is a "sticky" and near the top of the page.
