Has anyone used the government pension forecast service?
I’ve just enrolled and am waiting for my activation code.
I ain’t holding my breath.
By the time I retire it’ll be means tested. i.e. Worked all my life ( hopefully ). Always paid tax and NI, never claimed a penny in benefits, private health, minimal use of the NHS ( Hopefully ), company pension, savings (hopefully).
It does goad me that I’ll have worked hard and contributed all my life and get virtually nothing whilst the career benefits claimers ( not including those genuinely claiming incapacity benefit ) will have money thrown at them.

Yup, That's standard in this Country The harder you work the less you get to show for it.

I used the online pension forecast.
It was very straight forward to use and didn't give me any surprises, though it's useful to have it confirmed.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
I used it too. Lets you know how little you will be getting ....

The reason I used it, was to see when I could retire, as the age of retirement depends on when you were born!! Apparently I can draw my pension when I am 60 years 11 months and two weeks old..... but as it is not alot, will carry on working (not out of choice).
You can draw your pension when working, but it would seem that it is better not to.
The Silver savers forum gave me tons of info - a good lot on there!Genie

i am good 25 years of retireing and doubt i will but i do think people do need to make all sorts of provisions for there old age the state pension has never been enough i dont hold with the argument the benefit scroungers are looked after,. they get the minimum if you can live well exist on it thats up to them but i would not wish to walk in there shoes , but lets face it people never used to get a state pension and most can work well past 65 and it keeps them healthy and thay can carry on with there life styles, gtanted not if you were in some proffesions but then lower yor ideas and try BQ0

I think alot of the above is a tad condescending to be honest!!!
Some of us have worked hard and would love to retire and enjoy other things in life, thanks very much! It is different if you carry on working if you want to!!
My private pension is going to be pathetic.... and the state is even worse, and quite frankly, I don't deserve that. I've never had anything off of the state and I am tired now, like a lot of people and the thought of carrying on and on, is horrendous. But necessary.
I hope you are fit in 25 years time... you may have to work til you are in your eighties... and you may want to do other things but find, like me, that you can't afford to. The pension you are saving hard for, could, in 25 years, be worth absolutely zero.Genie

MY father is 76 and still works part time on his small holding his dad also farmed until he was 82, my mother is 70 a retired mid wife and works 3 days a week (her father farmed until his 80s also) for an old peoples home both have average private pensions and state pensions and enjoy every minute they are divorce but both go abroad 3 times a year etc etc, and they believe you get out exactly what you put in there view retire and you retire from life.0

The point is, they are enjoying life and are happy, which is fantastic. I am working full time and in no way could I afford to go abroad 3 times year!! So I think that they are wonderful in all that they are achieving and good luck to them.THE_LONE_RANGER wrote: »MY father is 76 and still works part time on his small holding his dad also farmed until he was 82, my mother is 70 a retired mid wife and works 3 days a week (her father farmed until his 80s also) for an old peoples home both have average private pensions and state pensions and enjoy every minute they are divorce but both go abroad 3 times a year etc etc, and they believe you get out exactly what you put in there view retire and you retire from life.
Think I would like the name of their travel agent.... I went way this year for the first time in donkeys years, and I know that with all the will in the world, it will be a miracle if I can afford it next year. I'm just grateful if i can get thru the month, pay my bills and not get overdrawn!! I am more fortunate than others I know as I was lucky enough to 'fix' my gas and elec earlier on in the year and also remortgage before things went completely mad. But I'm still struggling. So retirement is a dream for me.Genie

Its horses for courses. I don't want to work past 60 cos there's so much i want to do, and do it whilst i'm still fit enough.
Good health can never be assumed so plan to retire early and save my b*llocks off is my aim.
My point about benefit scroungers is not that i think they have alot. It's the fact that the harder you work and save, the harder the government shafts you and takes from you, whilst throwing it at people who are too lazy to get off their !!!!!!.
I'll might be lucky to inherit abit. My parents owned their own businesses for 30 years and never had more than a few days off in all that time. They've just retired in their early sixties and are starting to see some of the world.
What annoys me is when they are no longer here, (which i hope is a long long way of ), and if they haven't spent my inheritance ( which i'm telling them to cos they deserve to enjoy themselves ) the government will tax them twice (inheritance tax) for everything they've worked hard to own. You may argue it isn't them that's being taxed. Well, its the same hard earned money being taxed twice.
I hate this government.0 -
Daytona - you may have to work well past 60 if you need to rely on the state pension as well. They are gradually upping the retirement age.... - agree about the government, but I think they are all c**p to be honest!
My only chance of retiring at 60 is a lottery win, and that isn't likely
I don't want a huge lot. Just sufficient to be comfortable, have a holiday each year and my aims are quite boring to some, but I would love a dog or two and take water colour painting lessons and as a self confessed bookaholic - I would read and read and read!!!Genie
