Memory Pen - "E" Drive

I am having problems saving to my memory pen (E drive) - I created a completely new spreadsheet yesterday and when I connected my memory pen and tried saving to the E drive my computer came up with "the directory or file cannot be created".
When trying to save a word document to the E drive it comes up with "word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error (E:\filename.doc)".
When trying to copy from floppy to the E drive it comes p with "cannot copy (filename). The directory or file cannot be created". Then when pressing OK, it comes up with "the target cannot handle this type of document".
My whole computer setup is only a couple of months old and at first I had thought it was something to do with the fact that I was trying to transfer data from old floppies.
Any ideas anyone?

Is there a "lock" on the pen drive? all the ones I've had have a lock to stop you inadvertantly deleting data on them (bit like the old floppy lock) Check the sides of the pen drive for a small switch, it could be you have locked the drive without realising itWelcome, rogerramjet.

Actually, I can see something on the side, and there is a little symbol which shows locked and unlocked, but I am blowed if I can shift it - it looks like it is in the unlocked position according to the little diagram.0

Just flick it anyway and see what happens.
Maybe the symbols are the wrong way round0 -
Impossible to shift - it seems to be stuck actually in the sliding hole!0

remove the memory stick, move switch then insert memory stick again, i had a similar problem and the switch wouldnt work if it is in the usb slotsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Have you tried reformatting the pen drive ?, it may be a case of the file system being damaged.
To format, right click on the drive in my computer and select format.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

I had already removed the memory stick from the E drive when I examined it and found the little slide to lock/unlock - it just will not move.0 -

Have done just that today. They played around with it in the shop, said they could not understand why it would not perform as they had not had one with that kind of problem before. They gave me a new one of a different type and transferred all the data on to the new memory pen.
However, this one is coming up with the same messages on my computer, and they now seem to think it may be something corrupting the data. So ...... unfortunately it is a case of dismantling the tower and taking it in to see if they can get to the bottom of the problem.0 -
So you can read the files that are already on the pen drive, just not write to it? But the guy in the shop was able to write the files from you old pen drive to the new one?
Deffo something with your operating system, not hardware - so don't take the case apart.
Have you installed anything or changed anything software-wise since you were last able to write to the pen?0
