Thanks moonrakerz you 'fantastically fervent money saving super fan'. you've convinced me! I assumed they meant freeze my prices at the current rate but oh no! The tariff price is actually going to be more. I've done my sums this afternoon and if I go onto the EDF Frozen tariff my prices will rise about 35%. I'll end up paying another £120 in the next year at least for my electric alone. And you're right the penalty is about £50 to ditch them. It goes back to Martin Lewis's original statement "they are in it to make money out of you" and "loyalty does not pay". Have I learnt nothing off you guys in these past few months?0

Thank you daveash, much obliged, well we have insulation in the lofts, threeof them, cavity wall insulation, every window is double glazed, and doors, and house full of what they now say are dangerous light bulbs!!
So we cannot see how we can do much more, our oil boiler is six years old, so pretty well working ok and on the service in April they said it was working perfectly.
So here's hoping for more oil reductions before we run out of oil. Four inches appox left in the tank at mo.
We still think wind turbines are a good idea, but no use at our age 77 and 72, we would not recoup the lay out even with grants. Someone told us there is an electric boiler but cannot find out much about these at the moment, they run your existing radiators.
Sorry, deviating from this thread, so will sign off, best regards and thanks again, oap0 -

Islandboy - I am in exactly the same position, I have received the same offer, having come off a fixed price on EDF's Price Saver 2008 tariff. Like you this means as a percentage my rates have gone up by a similar amount so I can't see the advantage in fixing now. I am going to hold fire until we see what happens with fuel rates generally.0 -
Crude oil at $74 a barrel this evening. That's virtually half the cost from it's recent peak.0

I got my bills yesterday and from Oct 1st we are on a new (higher) tariff. Called EDF today and after ages on hold waiting I got through to an advisor. She explained that we had now come off the 2008 fixed rate tariff and were now on their new tariffs for gas/elec. SO WHAT WAS THE POINT IN WRITING TO EVERYONE? I'll be checking this all out at the weekend and seeing what they are charging on the comparison sites. Price of crude still dropping!!0
