  • I think I am depress as I don't know why i picked dentistry as my job- (i did when I was 17/18) i loved science and I wanted to work in health care to help people, i love using my hands for crafts etc hence I picked it.

I did my gcse more than 15 yrs ago- had 9a* and 2 a, all a in a level - got top marks in maths paper, did dentistry and a bsc in the middle- got first class hon on that, with dentistry was runner up for college gold medal. I am so sad that I am in a job which is so s***, with lots of paperwork and regulation day in day out.

at least you don't get complaint as a banker- even when the whole country goes down the toilet...

any dentist to advice different career pathway? my husband is a hospital surgeon so he can help me our money wise if I need to re-train and I love studying.

Ah cat I am sorry you are feeling the strain. I can completely sympathise!!! We wont get a lot of sympathy though :( .... be happy thats the best I can advise. IF its in the world of teeth maybe get a part time lecture/supervising role, do some voluntary work?? I have a few friends that have done bridge 2 aid and other such things. Or stimulate your mind! do another degree in something totally unrelated. Check out the OU. ... or emigrate ;) I am more or less at the same stage as you and it is increasingly driving me up the wall. FWIW you seem to manage things very well I i think many should take a leaf from your book
  • Good Lord. All those A* grades and presumably not one in English.

  • Jojo- thanks for your comment. Sorry if my English is not up to your standard but it is my third language as I am a foreign student and went to boarding school and university here. When I am upset my English tends not to be at as high a standard as it should. Thank you so much for pointing it out. I will try to improve on that.

Dear WD, I am studying some other courses at the moment. May be I should take up JoJo's kind remark and do some extra English courses.

Jokes aside I am thinking of leaving GDP for a while and do a yesr of maxfac- I will be older than the average SHO but it would be a change from UDA!

Was there really any need for this?

I'm just surprised that someone supposedly so highly educated as to get onto one of the three hardest degree courses there is, is unable to communicate effectively in the written medium. It made me wonder as to whether the 'just make the decision for yourself' approach is likely to be because they cannot explain it.

I also wondered whether this was a joke poster.

Every doctor I have worked with that uses English as a second language is more than capable of expressing themselves perfectly when writing. Is a high standard of written English unnecessary for dental training?

ETA: However, it could be down to me being a little hormonal at present and being unfair.
