Can anyone give me some advice please ?

Don't know where to start really so I'll just go for it....

I kicked my partner out a couple of weeks ago (have wanted to end the relationship for ages but we have a 3 year old son)

He's not a particularly great father and wasn't a particularly good partner in the last few years

Anyway, after worrying about ending the relationship I tried to keep going for the sake of my son and in the back of my mind also worrying about how I would cope financially as it scares the hell out of me

Would like some advice on what I can do as my rough calculations or attempts at a budget scare me into thinking I can't manage. I know I am not in as scary situation as some, but would just like some advice/help as to what you think I should be doing/could be doing.

I have a fair bit of debt owing from having a full year off on maternity leave, but I want to try and see a way forward on my own. Nobody in my family I can discuss this with or go to for advice/help so after reading here over last few months and seeing how much it keeps others positive someone could help ?

It's quite late in the evening so don't be disheartened if you don't get many replies tonight :) But start with filling this in and posting it so we can see what we have to deal with and can work on some informed advice tomorrow morning :)

For starters I'd call the council and change the council tax to single occupancy and call child tax credit number too as you are probably entitled to more money.

Will post link to SOA in a mo. Good luck though you will cope - been there and done it myself!

edit - mrs tine is way ahead of me! but seriously once you've done an SOA - even if you don't post it here - it does make you feel more in control and hopefully a lot more organised.

    Hi and welcome.

You are in a great place for advice and support.

You're first step has to be to post a comprehensive list of your income and expenditure together with your assets and liabilities. There is a template you can use that someone will post soon (I can't remember where to find it).EDIT is this it? www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html Oh I see youve found it.

You will get great support here.

  • oops sorry don't know if i did it right cos my mortgage balance is £155k ???
  • i forgot about the council tax, will definately do that in the morning !! thank you cos my heads a bit messy at moment and i think the more i write the figures down the more it upsets me. Ive just realised ive missed off all my credit !!

    loan - £235 per month (balance £10k)
Virgin - I was paying £525 per month (balance is (9k) - interest free until next June and I think min payment is actually about £50
Egg - £90 per month (minimum payment)

My ex partner said he would send £500 every month for my son (he earns approx. £100k) but guess what, he got paid, said he needed the money for himself and added up some food he had paid for a few weeks before and said I'd had some from him for this month really so I guess Im not gonna get owt from him at all (we split up a couple of years ago and I got nothing from him then for 8 months)
