Should I sell my house?

  • Hi All, I am working at losing the mobile contract, sky, clothes £50 can lose it no probs, will update my SOA in a few days and also hopefully have a few estate agent estimates for house price - bear with me a few days. Will also try and get a better deal on buildings & contents insurance. Although may sell anyway. Feeling so so much better, just admitting to my situation so thanks to EVERYONE who has posted so many kind words.
  • Hi Babysteps

Just picked up and read your thread. You are doing so well:beer:

It really is an amazing feeling once the debts start to get sorted - even if you can't reduce them for a while, just knowing you are dealing with them and not hiding from the reality of it all is like a weight being lifted.

The great thing about DFW is that everyone here has (or has had) very similar problems and therefore understands in a way that someone who has never had debt or financial worries ever could. You are definitely amongst friends. Keep logging and posting the DFW will become not just a way of life but an addiciton;)
  • Oh my God Brainfreeze, looking at your tagline you have cleared so much debt!

    Hi Babysteps

Don't be too impressed - I was very fortunate to be left £30k recently. We still have about £5k of the money and will be paying that off shortly - so I aim to have the totals to under £25k soon. But that said, we have been working hard - sometimes it came down faster than others and I was off work ill with no pay for a fair few months so nothing seemed to move but we are getting there.

Before joining this site I was just meeting minimum payments and the cards were never going to be cleared - everything was awful. Now I love logging and checking the bank balance and knowing that I can pay a bit more each time to clear another account. As I said, DFW becomes addictive.;)
  • I would post smiley jumping yellow creatures but .... haven't worked how to yet... well done on clearing that amount of debt, that is absolutely amazing.

You are right about the lovely people on this forum, my problem feels like a dirty little secret and somehow I manage to keep smiling and keeping up appearances to the outside world. If it wasn't for my company fuel card, I wouldn't have been able to get to work this month. I consider myself lucky though and already feel like I want to help everyone else. I can see how this forum can be addictive :-)

I know exactly what you mean about it feeling like a dirty little secret. I think even if you never tell a soul in the real world....knowing that you can talk (post) whatever you want about the debt on here is such a release. I was exactly the same - I went to work, smiled, went out with the gang (never admitting I couldn't afford it and if I did that would be the shopping money down the pan). I still don't admit to people at work about our finances (family and close friends know) - but I do have the guts to say if I can't afford to go out with them on a jolly for no reason whatsoever or if they want me to go in the secret santa thing then I just say I have a tight budget for Christmas shopping and thanks for asking me but I will give it a miss this year. They are fine about it (to my face anyway:rotfl:)

Once again...good luck with clearing the debts - you have the right attitude to it all now.
  • Well that's a great turn around for you and I look forward to feeling excited at logging onto to online banking in the future instead of the dread that I feel now.... thanks for your support - nitey nite

Just arranged council tax over the 12months, took a bit of persuading (they quoted Government regs etc) - they checked and apparently I had been getting single persons discount until Aug 08 so no hope of a rebate, it's just bloomin expensive. Council tax now £81 per month - YaY
I just wanted to make sure you had also checked up that your council tax BAND ie A,B,C,D,E,F etc is correct for you HOUSE as well as whether you are paying for the correct amount of people.

Re: kids working, older one works part time (gives me sporadic amounts - but need to do a budget with them so they realise I need something regular I can depend on) - younger one looking for Saturday job at the mo. Fingers crossed. They had better look after me when I am old (if the stress doesn't kill me first LOL)

Have you been able to have this chat yet?

I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
  • Chevalier, thanks, I will call them to check about 2nd adult rebate
I have already gone through Martin's council tax band check and unfortunately I am in the correct band - but it wont hurt to ask the council when I call them
  • Thanks oldman of the sea! and you can't be dumb if you are on this forum!
