54Mbs is very fast, probably 50-100 times faster than your broadband internet connection, it shouldn't be an issue, for at least another 10 years, if ever..
The bottleneck, (if you have one) is your internet connection speed
If you had an internet speed of 54Mb/s, you would be able to download a full audio Cd in 96 seconds, which is some way off for residential broadband..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
To add, if you have the latest firmware for the Netgear it should be able to handle broadband speeds of up to 24Mbps so is pretty future proof. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

How much speed do you want? 8Mb/s is 8-16 times faster than most people have .. you don't don't know how lucky you are, I'm still on 0.5Mb/s!
My original 50-100 number is way out for your fast connection. The router is 54/8, i.e. 6.75 times faster than your current internet speed, but still not a problem unless you are connecting 6+ PC's to it at once..
Incidentally, you are unlikely to get 8Mb/s as it depends on where you live, and how many people in your neighbourhood it is shared with (contention ratio)..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Your internet connection will still be 8Meg that can't be increased by your router. It's your wireless network connection that's 54 Meg. So basically if you transfer files between home networked PC's that's the speed of the file transfer. If you want the 54 Meg to be faster you would have to buy the newer DG834GT 108Mbps model. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!
