Anglian patio door quote

Hello all,

We had the Anglian saleman around to quote for a doub panel fench patio door in our victorian terrace house. The quote is £3900:eek:, and it is after thier "discount". Part of the reason why it is expensive is because our openning is curved which convienently added approx £900 to his quote. Because it is curved, they only can do the grade A or B grade glass which is much more expensive.

A day after the visit, the local branch manager called up and i politely decline the offer citing cost & credit crunch etc. He immediately knocked off £900. I said i will think about it and speak to my wife.

Had a quick look in the forum, mix feelings Anglian. I do think thier products are of certain quality.

Anyone has any experience of anglian and their knocked down price? Are there any hidden charges? VAT for example?

I have yet to get a local company around.
Would the local company be able to provide product as good quality as Anglian?

I have no experience of Anglian, but I doubt that their quality is any better than many others. Most DG companies buy their sections from one of a few different manufacturers. In any event you have no way of knowing how good the quality is just by looking at the various sections that they show you. Unless, of course, it is blantantly obvious that a particular section is flimsy or such like.
I would have thought that the way to go, was to get quotes from a couple of local companies, and ask them if they have any satified customers who you could talk to about the quality of both the product and the service offered. If they are reputable, then they would certainly give you some names.
Firms like Anglian are always going to be expensive because of the huge amount that they spend on advertising and, no doubt, commission to sales people. Local companies will not have anything like this level of outgoing, and should be very competitive.
In addition, I am always suspicious of companies who can suddenly come up with a discount. It seeme to me that when that happens, their original quote was just a try-on.
VAT will not be a 'hidden' charge, it will be up there in the estimate, and in any event, the first question I would always ask, would be "Does this price include VAT"
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • I am assuming that when you say curved you mean that your french doors go into an arched opening. In this case you may be worthwhile getting some more quotations in for the product. I would estimate that you would probably be looking around £1,800 - £2,300 for that product supplied and fitted.

Most companies profiles are pretty similar, and if you are unsure ask them which profile they use and for literature on it. The profile suppliers generally have good websites with plenty of information.

2k would be a top price for that sort of door, inc fitting.
you can buy patios doors from say 300/600 quid. supply only.
and 2 men could do the job in a day.
    Get some gorm.
  • You can't buy that sort of product made to measure with an arch and arched doors for that price ormus, which is what I presume Anglian has quoted for. Hope this helps.

I think ormus already knows that but is trying to draw a comparison with what is available out there.

£3900 is extortionate and I should think you could get the doors made to measure for less than £2000 as ormus said. A lot less if they decided to lose the arch and fill it instead :o

this comparison does not help you are comparing patio price to arched french doors.arched frames are far more expensive and so are shaped d/g units ,templates need making first id say some where between 1500 and 2k depending on size.we price up against anglian as well as other big names on a regular basis and only wish we could get to quote on every job they did :j that would be happy days .
if you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction

We're waiting to get French doors in (just waiting for building warrant to come through). We're going to be £2600 - this is including cutting down the wall as there's only a window there at the moment, and includes the plans that were submitted to the council. The glass is tinted, so a bit more expensive there - it's Pilkington K glass if that makes any difference?

We were told that the patio doors would have cost the same.
  • £3900 ? i would tell them to go run and jump! if you shop around i reaon you could do it for half that price

i would not deal with any company that could knock off £900 of their original price
they should be giving you their best price in the first place - not what they think they can get away with
go for a reputable local co
  • Completely agree with a6windows post.

roastduck if you give a few local companies a ring you'll get a much better price
