i have been informed by The post office that my account with them no longer exists and i have been told that my telephone number is listed as cable, but i havent switched to cable. They told mei have been slammed and that i need to contact oftcom. I have also been told its possible when the line was connected the BT engineer could have incorrectly connected me to cable instead of BT?
Any ideas anyone?

There's no way that could happen - cable & BT lines are not interchangeable and BT engineers wouldn't have access to cable kit anyway.0 -
Was the number you had at anytime a cable one - ported (transferred) to BT? It could be that the number range holder would then indicate cable as a possibility - that and a thick PO employee!
Or Cable could be some company called cable, rather than Virgin Media the "cable" company.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

well the point, is i have been told, by tisacli, that they couldnt take my line over because it was cable. I have phoned several other telephone companies who have all told me my line is listed as cable. I spent an hour on the phone with Tiscali, who told me that I couldnt have their L/L and broadband, because they could only transfer a BT line to their package, but seems as i didnt have a BT line, they said they couldnt do it. Hence me cancelling the order. Thus leading to a complete state of confusion. No one seems to admit to owning my line, and seems as i had a BT line installed 6 weeks ago, i have no idea, how it all of a sudden become cable.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! As you are being given the run around i suggest you call Ofcom and see if they can get to the bottom of it.
Phone Numbers are here: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/contactus/0 -
Ohh it gets better! I have phoned Ofcom, who isisted to me twice, that the post office should take the line back immediatly. Have phoned the post office twice, i was told that was not possible as they would them be slamming me back. I phone Ofcom again and they reassured me that the Post Office were perfecty capeable of retaking my line.
After 30 minutes of talking to the post office, telling them what Ofcom had told me, i was insturcted that actually they couldn't take the line back as it had now been disconnected and that if i wanted a phone line i would have to pay £110 on top of the bill i already have for £110 (for the phone line i had installed 6 weeks ago) to get a new line installed!!!!!!!
I am starting to go a little insane! I obviously need a phone line, as soon as possible. But I dont know what to do! I am not paying £220, thats for sure.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0 -
Seems as the line doesnt even appear to working, I cant even check to make sure they did give me the right number! Argh! It still rings when you phone it though!Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.0

the "this is a cable line" response is generic it a guess that the systems of service providers make when thay check the number. Its like a broadband check and its response is incompatible products etc. needs furter investigation to find the issue.0

hellokitty I am having nightmares with 'slamming' also... never ehard of it before now and OFCOM were no use and told me they couldn't help as it was an internet issue not phoneline....
I can't understand how my account can be taken over by another company WITHOUT my permission....
