As an avid reader of MSE over the past few years, I along with millions of others have made huge savings with the FREE advice given by Martin Lewis. Independant Financial Advisors charge a small fortune for the same thing.
I cannot believe the number of posters blaming Martin for the unprecedented world financial crisis.
I for one wish that Martin is eventually knighted in recognition of his work in assisting the ordinary man, woman and child make the most of their hard earned money.
Martin, THANK YOU

Oh please. What complete and utter tosh.Independant Financial Advisors charge a small fortune for the same thing.
Dont mix up web based information and journalism with regulated financial advice.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Only !!!!!!, sycophants, royal grovellers, dead politicians, has beens like M Parkinson, and fat lollipop ladies get gongs. To even consider Martin in the same breath deserves pecking to death by the Tower's ravens.
Shame on you and Glory to Martin, The People's Champion
p.s. I am laughing myself silly at all the Martin snipers now that it has come out the Treasury advised the local authorities to bank with Iceland and that everybody relied on the S&P AAA rating. Eat thy humble pie low lives.0 -
They also have legal and financial liability when the advice they give turns out to be wrong.
Out of interest, do you think any IFAs would have recommended Icesave in the last two years?
If so, do you see them being held responsible for the consequences to their clients over the failure of Icesave?0 -
I would like to know how much money the people who are slagging off Martin Lewis have saved using this website?
A rough estimate for myself over the last year would be at least £1000...
I am sure some have saved maybe 10k plus - council tax re-banding, car insurance, etc... Martin is not the scapegoat, if you want to blame someone, blame society and the banks for being reckless with cheap credit over the last decade...
Has anyone saved more than 10k since they started using this site?0 -

Crikey mate! You are very easily amused. Might want to turn the computer off for a while.0 -

Only a handful (if that) of posters are blaming Martin and most of them just wanted someone or something at which to vent their anger and fear.
The vast majority are guided by Martins advice but except they are responsible for their own decissions.
Martin has and continues to do us all a great service but you should not encourage people to assume Martin is a Financial Advisor or that the information he provides should take precedent over seeking IFA. On the contary the information should be used only as a guide and perhaps as a basis for discussions with a IFA.

An excellent point - I wonder how much money has been saved in total, by all the members on this site by using the advice given?... Martin is not the scapegoat, if you want to blame someone, blame society and the banks for being reckless with cheap credit over the last decade...
Absolutely :T:T:TSome people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

If they wanted a formal recommendation then I would have expected a warning in the recommendation letter about the different FSCS protections (that warning is put on most products that dont get standard FSCS protections) and thats about it. For cases after March/April (ish) of this year I doubt any formal recommendation would have been made without further stability risk warnings as there were concerns back then.
However, lets be clear, the vast majority of consumers dont pay an adviser to give them a savings account recommendation. That said, the councils dont have much excuse. They do pay for advice and you would expect due dilligence to take place on deposits being made in the millions and the information was around earlier in the year that there were concerns.
In this case the issue is with savings, which is unregulated. There are subjects on this site which cover regulated products which say things an adviser would not be able to say.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such.
