Barratt Complaints?

My wife and I moved into a Barratt home in June last year and almost immediately the problems started. We have had a leak in the kitchen ceiling for over a year and an intermitant leak in the living room over the same period. Alot of the plaster work is of poor quality there are holes in the roof and, well the list could go on for ever. Customer care is non existant with unreturned calls and broken appointments. On the numerous occasions they have appeared they have forgotten to bring their tools or on one occasion to sort a leak on the first floor they forgot a ladder. I only wish I was joking! I have raised several complaints with NHBC however they also seem unable to get Barratt to properly carryout any work.

Can anyone suggest any other courses of action open to me? Would paying for a lawyer achieve anything if NHBC can't. Is compensation an option and would they pay?

Due to being a Police Officer I don't really want to go to the media and publicise my home address for obvious reasons.

Any replies or suggestions would be appreciated thanks

rsl, are others on the estate having similar problems? Obviously if thats the case, a group should be formed to have more clout than all complaining separately.

find out who looks after your area and stop them for speeding, driving without due care etc etc etc

    or/and

write a letter, detailing everything that is wrong, give them 14 days to respond. send it all recorded delivery. that's the best thing to do first of all.

if you get no joy, it would probably be best to get someone in to validate what is and what isn't covered by NHBC, and going to small claims (mention this in the letter)

keep note of everything that has happened to date

I would suggest turning up at their nearest unsold development on a Saturday morning and raising the issue...but its unlikely any prospective customers will be there at the moment.

You need to check the details of the NHBC warranty and see if there is a complaints procedure. Houses are sold as seen...so you are completely reliant on that warranty (or goodwill from Barratt) to get anything done.
