Insurance more than value of car - advice please?

Think how much his/her insurance will be if they ever decide to go legal though, due to that infraction.0

Although he's passed his test, does he NEED his own car? I think with direct line, he can build up his no claims bonus whilst as a named driver on someone elses policy i.e. YOURS, and then next year he could buy a car and get insurance with 1 year NCB!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Just beware though that if you're thinking as insuring a car in your name with him as a named driver when he drives the car the most, insurance companies are aware this goes on and will cancel any policy they suspect this is happening on.0 -
I would be over the moon at that insurance- son was given a car, which was very lovely of the person but to insure it is £2200. its a 1.4 corsa. we are working up to changing it as it was a gift we don't like to look ungrateful so have took the bullet this year & hope the premium is lower come renewal. DD has been given a micra which is only £1000 to insure, so car type makes a big difference.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."
FEB challenge £128/£270 balance £142
£2 saving club £1400 -
I am going round and round in circles looking at both comparison sites and independent companies!!
Basically DS had just passed his test and we have seen a W (00) 1.0 Club Corsa for £1400, however the cheapest insurance for this that I can find is £1900 - I have put us parents as named drivers and tried 3rd party f & t, but doesn't make much difference.
Is it financially worth it paying more insurance than the car is worth - soembody please explain!!!
Thanks
What about whoevers car you crash into?0 -

Yes but I drive a lovely, new, shiny red mini....and I want to keep it that way!!0 -
Thats the case with old cars unfortunatley. My cars have always cost me around £500 and the insurance was near enough that per year if not more.
Elephant, Admiral and Bell are good for younger drivers. Go on their websites and fill in the info..its a boring task but it might save you hundreds. Forget about the comparison sites, i always find their pricing to be a bit out of what the companies actually charge direct.0 -

lol yes my mum will sympathise. Her 12 year old fiesta died literally 2 days before my 17th birthdayand she got a brand new one after that!! hee hee hee! But no, I didn't write it off, although my brother hit a curb rather hard and it had to have the wheels realigned!
Well, if he doesn't NEEEEEEEED to drive a car, how about putting him on your insurance for a year and helping him build up that 1 year NCB, then once a month allow him to drive whilst you're with him, just to practice, and then NEXT year let him have his own car when he'll have cheaper insurance!?
He'll agree if he has to pay the insurance himself!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

The car is an early 18th birthday present, so we will go ahead and buy him it.0
