IceSave - Why Do We Need To Complete A Form

British bureaucracy at it's best
???
We like to make things as complex as possible!
The FCSC will obviously have access to our account details to send us a form, and to check we don't over claim.
Is it simply naive of me to wonder why they just send us a cheque in due course?
Of even more simply, just transfer our balances into our nominated linked accounts ??

So let me get this straight. Icesave went under. The government have offered guarantee ALL monies even when they didn't have to and you are moaning about the need to fill A form in?
Some people are never happy.0 -
What makes you think the FSCS have access to our account details? Maybe names and addresses only.
Data Protection Act and all that.0 -

Strictly speaking Icesave savers are supposed to have to make a trip to Iceland to make a claim. UK Government has decided that making such a trip is not appropriate due to Iceland being penniless:rotfl: Now O/P is moaning about having to fill in a form to reclaim his/her own money. :rolleyes:0 -

Maybe you should claim for the stamp when you return the form, although I'm sure our sneaky evil Government will try to wriggle out of that one too!0 -
I'm not sure the OP is necessarily moaning, it's more a question of whether the procedure is necessary. I imagine we need to say which account to move money to (as, given the recent turbulence, we might no longer want it moved to our linked account), where would we like the ISA money transferred to - or withdrawn altogether? But it might also be for legal reasons, in case our personal details have changed, for our consent, for the FSA's records, etc etc0

oh dear - some people are sooo sensitive
DigitalJedi - am I moaning, no just wondering
Stair - do really think so? I'm sure they will have access so as they can check the amounts being claimed
Bristolleedsfan - incorrect, if you're being a pedant. Yes claim from Icelandic scheme but not necessary to make a physical trip
AdamC - not about my individual stamp cost but how about saving the taxpayer huge administration costs in unnecessary paperwork let alone 300,000 stamps!
Sorry for rattling all your cages - sheesh  - I was just wondering why huge amounts of (IMHO) unnecessary paperwork is being generated when, apparently, the transfer of Kaupthing Accounts are transferred to ING at a touch of a button with no intervention from account holders.0 -
I expect the form will require the claimant to assign over any rights to claim and receive monies from Landsbanki/Iceland compensation scheme/Iceland government etc.0
-
We're probably also going to need to tell them where to put it, they might put it in a current account rather than posting us a cheque, etc.
I'd expect them to have access to Icesave's systems but they might want us to tell them how much we had to make sure the system marries up with what we actually had and to try to clarify things for people who had transfers in the system, things like that.
It's all a bit unknown at this stage! I'll fill in 10,000 forms if it'll get my money back to me! (Note to FSCS - one form is fine though!)0 -

With the transfer of KE accounts to ING the FSCS is paying out to ING individual account holders are not involved.
In the case of Icesave the FSCS will be compensating the individual account holders.
So in the case of Kaupthing they needed an agreement with ING.
In the case of Icesave they need an agreement with the individual account holders.0 -
I don't like the idea of paper form filling for this reason:
What's to stop a fraudster setting up a PO Box and then sending out letters to random addresses (given probably over 250,000 addresses have Icesave deposits) asking for bank details?
It's a worrying thought. Given the government have control over the compensation system why not set up an account with NSI for each Icesave customer, put the compensation in there and then tell people there new details and they can choose whether to leave it there or not.0
