Berlingo windscreen washer problem
My 2002 Berling 1.9 van has just failed its MOT because the windscreen washer doesn't work. I'd taken it to a local authority site and the guy there gave me the chance to put it right before he did the form. The best hope was that it was a fuse. Unfortunately the handbook doesn't list a fuse for the washer & so I wasn't able to try a new one. Does anybody know which fuse it is? Another possibility is a problem with the pump. Can anybody tell me where it is & how I get access to it? I've looked for a Haynes manual locally without success. Can anybody point me in the direction of an on-line manual/guide?
Thanks

The system will likely be very simple. The pump will most likely be on the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir bottle and will be quite obvious as there will be a cable connected to it.
When you press the switch to activate the pump, does the pump make any noises? If not, either it isn't seeing any voltage, or something is preventing it from working. If the former then it is a simple case of fault finding with a multimeter (faulty connector, faulty wiring, or faulty switch in the car). If the latter then it is either faulty, or blocked.
If it is making a noise, but still no water is being shot at the screen, the pipes to the nozzles may have come loose, or they may be split, or the nozzles may be blocked.0 -
not sure of the fuse,
The pump will burn out if its used with no water in it, they are usually near the front drivers side wheel, its attached to the side of the washer bottle in a push fit arrangement. It might be easier to unplug the pump and put a meter across the connections and see if you get anything when you pull the washer lever
I found that somewhere like eurocarparts or halfords are just as cheap as a scrap yard strangle0 -

heheh, i wrote out my answer and forgot to hit 'submit reply'
As Pew pew wrote about looking for blockages if the pump is working, it could jus be blocked up with junk, ive seen this a few times now, try pooring hot water into the tank, i found this loosened somthing up, a load of sludge came out then it was back to normal!0 -
We used to run Berlingo's at work and they regularly clogged the jets, either use an airline on them or hot water as posted above.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. ya, once a year i poor hot water in and squirt it out over the period of about 30 mins, dont hold the motor down until its gone as it can burn motors out0

Don't bother with Haynes stuff, we get SO many guys in with Haynes manuals and it's never accurate enough to get the right pictures and explenations for each engine type. Not worth the money IMO.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. i think haynes manuals are great, they give fairly accurate descriptions and indepth strip downs, not to mention easy to read wiring diagrams and all the facts and figures you need to know about your car, torque settings, fluid types etc...
i think everyone should own the haynes manual for thier car....work permit granted!0 -
There's no sound when I pull the lever which leads me to believe that the fault is electrical. As the pump and water bottle appear to be hidden in the wheel arch (only the top of the bottle is visible from inside the engine compartment) I though I'd start with the fuse, if I could identify it.0

My Berlingo did this - it was the fuse - but as it was under warranty I got it repaired at the citroen garage so don't know what fuse it is or where it is - sorry. Apparantly it's a really common fault in the Berlingo especially when trying to get water out in icy weather0
