Student in need of help with Icesave

This Icesave collapse has left me in a mess, I'm a student with literally all of my loan in Icesave and am now left with very little money left in my other account. It however said some money was transferred TO my Icesave on Tuesday (I set that up about a week before hand and haven't kept ontop of the news), is that right?? I thought they said they would stop all transfers on Monday!!! I asked Natwest and they didn't seem to know or care!!!

Little confused. What has Natwest got to do with this?

And secondly, parents are there for a reason. You will get the money back in a few months. In the meantime, change the student finance details so in future money gets paid elsewhere for January payment.

How are you doing for overdraft?

Not all parents can afford that kind of money though. The best thing to do is to talk to Natwest about getting your maximum overdraft allowance and live off that, assuming you haven't put that in IceSave too. I'm having to rely on my overdraft to get by until the next payments are due.
  • do you work? if not, it's well worth checking out the uni jobshop; they usually have something available and it could help to tide you over for the first term while you're waiting for the FSCS to kick into action

You might be able to cover accomodation and baked beans if you work say.. 16 hours a week? As for the tuition fees, perhaps a letter to one of the higher ups at uni (with a printout of your student loan being held hostage in your IceSave account) would prove your position - you never know, they might be leniant in this exceptional case and give you more time

Your university should have a fund for emergency financial aid, they should at least be able to give you an emergency loan to support yourself. Don't worry! Go see your advisor or finance people and they can help you out with the forms etc.

You should be able to apply for the "Hardship Fund" in this case.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

Because if all transfers should have stopped on Monday then I don't see why the money was debited from Natwest on Tuesday. Surely they should have (along with the other banks) halted all transfers to Icesave the minute it got into trouble. At least thats what I thought!!

I do hope not! A loan is one thing but a hardship grant is something else; this money isn't lost, just unavailable at the present time.
