installation queries

Putting my postcode into the availability checker, I got the response that 512 broadband was available but due to the length of my connection, broadband may have to be installed by an engineer - will I have to pay for this?

Also it said that I had services or equipment incompatible with broadband at the address and these would have to removed before broadband could be installed - I've know idea what they mean - anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

I don't believe you have to pay for an engineer visit if it is just to assist with the broadband connectivity (eg installing a filtered faceplate on your BT master socket).

However, seeing as you mentioned incompatible equipment on your line - this may be a DACS box. This I believe is free to a degree - but if it will cost more than a certain amount to remove the DACS, you may be liable to pay for its removal. If you're wondering what DACS is, it is a way BT used to split a single telephone line into two outside a property.

You should still be able to place your order with an ISP, and they will arrange for the removal of the DACS box on your behalf. This can take anywhere between a few days and a few weeks to get done.
