yeah service packs are irrelevant really, as there free to d/l anyway. All MS will do is check your keycode is valid for XP (pro or home dependant on which one)."Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Also need to make sure the copy is Retail, Corporate, or OEM. Did you buy this version of XP from the shop when it was released? or did it come pre installed? By the sounds of it, you bought from a shop, so you need a retail copy.Rules, Rules, Rules .....0

It says on it "for distribution with a new pc" It came with a shop built pc years ago that has since died and dismantled for servicable parts.I bought the disc and COA sticker off a workmate ages ago but have only just got around to using it.0 -

Usually I wouldn't but he's a decent guy and I know that he is running vista on his current pc.That's why he sold the XP.

I've seen this caused by dodgy media. If you're using a backup, try burning it at a lower speed, or using decent cds/dvds.
It's also, as has been mentioned, possibly bad ram. Or bad settings. Overclocked ram or ram being forced to use timings it doesn't like. I'd imagine an iffy CPU overclock could do the same thing. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
