Avoid Sky!!

I have been a member for a while but not posted for a long time. I just want to vent.

I just wanted to catalogue the errors that have occurred installing Sky digital plus.

Sky digital plus installation was arranged for Tue 29 November.

Engineer rang at 9.30 to say he been sent to Liverpool would come later if it was not dark. He was not risking his life. Engineer rang at 3 to say he was passing it on to colleague who would definitely call on Wed 30 Nov.

Wed no one came. By now two days off work.

Rang sky Wed eve and lady confirmed someone would come between 3 – 6 on Thursday then I did not need more time off work.

While at work someone called while I was out, sometime before 1.30!! Unbelievable.

Rang Sky customer services again. She arranged to the one of the managers of sub contractors to ring me. He rang to say someone would definitely come on Saturday 3 Dec in the morning as I could not have any more time off work. He promised that it would definitely happen.

Spoke to sky at 10 and 2 as I had not heard from an engineer.

Rang Sky at 3.30 The sub contractors then called me and said the job had been cancelled that morning. In all I have waited in for 3 full days, and Thursday afternoon with two days off work. I have spent hours on hold on the phone.

Now they have promised to come in the morning. It annoys me because we do not have cable down our street so I can't tell them to **** off as we have no other choice. I wish they had some competition. It is also a high rate 0870 number and it takes about 20 minutes to get through and then you are on hold for ages while they sort it.

I am going to try for some compensation but I will not hold my breathe.

    ha another sky fan...NOT!
ive just spent 57 minutes on the phone to sky about my sky +.
1st of all my sky plus memory was telling us we only had a small amount of memory left in personal planner yet only a bit of memory had been taken up... deffo not 100%. Then for the last few days every so often when we record something it fails... not everytime just as and when it seems to feel like it!
spent 38 mins on fone on hold to be answered by an operator who told me after my explanation of the probs that she wasnt trained to deal with sky+ queries....argh,,,then on hold another 5 mins only to be told to adjust system setup to sort out memory prob... great i thought,,,, oh no! ........ the reason sky is failing to record every now and then is,,,,,,,, wait for it,,,,,, they dont no! they no its happening and is affecting some customers and has been for the last 6 weeks. but they dotn no why, or when they can rectify it..
when i asked the operator why i paid £150 for the sky + box and £52 per month subscription i was told the money was for viewing,,, not for recording....well the reson i bought sky+ was to record and get rid of videos!!!! nothing i can do she sed, write to complaints department etc etc

It amazes me you people put up with this crap!
To the O.P. if they don't offer you compensation for messing you about then cancel your order - it's the only way to punish them. You DO have a choice. Your life will not be devalued becuase you don't have Sky.
  • Sky + is a quite complicated piece of Hardware/Software, usually if I start getting failed recordings just unplug it for 20 seconds & then plug it back in, works a treat till the next time.

Also ladydriva you'll need to do a planner rebuild from the installers menu 4-0-1 select from the remote.

Sky+ is excellent, some sky subbies suck!

I had a similar experience with Sky a few years ago before we swopped to NTL - 2 days off work and a wasted Saturday because the engineer failed to show up. I sent a letter to the CEO detailing my hourly work/leisure rate and saying I was billing them for my wasted time. They compensated me fully in free rental for the following few months, so be persistent in complaining!

Unfortunately some of us don't have a choice if we want some of the channels Sky transmit.
My only digital alternative is Freeview or Top Up TV and because of location not all their channels are available. There is no "cable" and no possibility of it being installed in this area in the foreseeable future.
I'd love to ditch Sky but because I want a bit of extra viewing choice that's not possible.

Oh my favourite subject! My Sky + was a real catalogue of disasters, so much so that I logged everything down and wrote to them a while back and got a rebate (we had to get the engineers out on eight visits in just under a year!).

Re the recordings failing it sounds like that is the box as that happened to us - things either failed or skipped and jumped so much you couldn't watch them. We also had a fault with our dish for a while which they kept saying was due to the weather - but we were losing our signal from 9am to 8pm almost every day!

Just keep complaining (preferably in writing!)

I'd jump ship and go for freeview but we love the fact that our lives are almost ad-free with the sky +!!
  • Why Sky? I dumped Sky last december, got so fed up with the incessant adverts, I sat down and evaluated what we as a household watched on the TV.over 90% was available on freeview. Yes you still get adverts but your not paying for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I could get Sky1 on freeview I would dump Sky altogether (but Sky 1 is our main channel these days)
