Orange contract to PAYG help please.
We have 2 phones on the one account both with Orange. I am happy to keep my contract as it is, my OH however has a phone he is happy with but does not need the £25 pcm bundle and would probably better with PAYG. Think he used 50 minutes last month and his 12 month contract is up. Needs to call anytime to both mobiles and landlines - mobiles are mostly on Orange - but not that often.
What would be the best way to do this ? Get a free sim and port his number ? Just got completely flumoxed trying to work out what's best - too many options.
Any suggestions MSE'rs ?

Just phone orange, give them your notice, they will then send you a sim card and the number will be transfered to payg, no problems!!0

Cross-network minutes will cost quite a bit more though. It might be worth getting a free O2 SIM and using that as well or instead. You can get their Joining Treat of 50 x-net minutes per month free for the 1st 3 months0

If he stayed on Orange Payg he would be paying 15p a minute own network and 01/02 numbers,40 p a minute x-net to mobiles. Lets say he called own net/01/02 for 40 mins thats £6 and 10 minutes x-net thats another £4.=£10 a month.
If he got a free o2 online sim,and ported his number. Then he could choose the 100 anytime anynetwork minutes option. He would have to top up by £10 to get this, but he would get to keep the £10 to use as well. When the minutes run out after a month he could use up £10,then top up again and get another 100 minutes and so on.0 -
As previously stated, Orange will send you a PAYG SIM, however if the handset is easy to unlock from Orange, you could consider using another operators SIM, like Tesco PAYG - 20p/min to landlines or any network, any time, 10p/min to favourite 3 numbers, Texts 10p. Tesco uses the O2 network. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

what about orange payg extras, he can choose daily, weekly packs, unlimited daily gprs is great for emailing other peoples mobiles rather than the cost of texts

Need to check if the phone can be unlocked as it's an Orange branded SPV. If this is possible then how do I get a 'free' 02 online SIM - only been able to find ones I have to pay for? Thanks for the tip though.HLK

Contract handsets are yours to do with as you wish from day one. If this handset is now out of contract (i.e. 12 months up) Orange will charge £20 for the necessary code to unlock the handset, although you could probably get it done cheaper. Unlocking it could save a considerable amount over time, if another providers SIM were to be used for a light calling pattern. Most of the operators have free SIM offers from time to time, as posted on this forum. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
