Prime Minister Gordon Brown says the U.K. will take legal action to recover money held by British savers in branches of troubled Icelandic banks.
Might this mean that we have to wait until the legal action is complete (i.e. several decades!) before we receive the compensation?Stompa0 -
I feel that people will soon be boycotting companies owned by our former Icelandic friends

I'd go to war with them over that, we could overrun the island in a day and take what we need - and sink their fishing fleet to teach them a lesson, then what would they fall back on? Short of a war we could seize their assets in the UK, for a start. They seem like a dispicible race of people.
They seem to be throwing their lot in with the Kremlin (4bn euro loan, possible russian bases on Iceland...) Added to the geothermal and mineral rights could be the Gordon Brown's Falklands....
The vision of him sitting in a tank wearing a headscarf has just flashed through my mind.0 -

I think the UK government will bail us out. Then seek compensation from iceland.
I actually hope they go bankrupt after this.
I'm pretty sure after 10 years they will be stronger than ever in the emerging markets.
Maybe then I will invest with them again :rotfl:Savings

I boycotted SA goods in the days of apartheid, including Shell and Barclays for thir activities in the country - to this day I have never gone back, even though apartheid is gone. I'll be invoking a lifetime ban on any company that has Icelandic connections with immediate effect.0

Are you half American by any chance? :rotfl:I'd go to war with them over that, we could overrun the island in a day and take what we need - and sink their fishing fleet to teach them a lesson, then what would they fall back on? Given yesterday's abandonment of depositors with Icelandic financial institutions - Icesave in the UK - I would like to advocate that as a nation we need to abandon helping the Icelandic nation by boycotting any Icelandic funded institution. The Icelandic government needs to realise that this is a global market place and they should be made to pay for their largese and abandonment of innocent savers. I would be very grateful if you pass this on to friends and family so we can collectively show the Icelandic nation that we are not a soft touch and that we view their actions as totally and wholly unacceptable. The authorities in Iceland have shown a complete disregard for all external investors including bond investors, stock investors, depositors etc. I would also like to congratulate the UK government for stepping in to ensure depositors don't lose out and especially for instituting legal action against the Icelandic authorities for failing to adhere.
Firstly - can we all please adandon Kaupthing.
Secondly - this is a list of other Icelandic supported institutions that we need to collectively boycott as a nation:
Food Iceland, Whittard of Chelsea
Department stores Illum, House of Fraser, Magasin du Nord, SOUK
Fashion Mosaic, Coast, Karen Millen, Oasis, Odille, Principles, Shoe Studio, Warehouse, Whistles, Jane Norman, All Saints, Matthew Williamson
Other investments Debenhams, French Connection, Woolworths, Saks
Hamleys - Toys and Goldsmiths - the jewellers
Good Luck and lets show some collective responsibility and stand up and show the Icelandic authorities the true spirit of Britain.0 -
