Darling on BBC News says that he is going to pursue Iceland for going against the passport scheme.

He also said that he will guarantee 100% of savings in Icesave.

A further announcement at lunch time.

Daily mail i dont think so,it's reality..hundreds of thousands including children are living in poverty..

Millions of children in the UK are living in, or on the brink of, poverty, a report claims.
The Campaign to End Child Poverty says 5.5 million children are in families that are classed as "struggling" - 98% of children in some areas.
The campaign classes households as being in poverty if they are living on under £10 per person per day.
A government spokeswoman said it had lifted 600,000 children out of poverty and was committed to the cause.

And that's from the Labour party, the same Government who has injected billions to the Banks

He just said on Radio 4 the Icelandic Government have no intention of honouring their 20,000 Euros obligation, but that the Brit system will honour both the Icelandic 20,000 euros AND the 'Brit element' (up to £50,000)...
    Hope, there, I suppose...

Interesting I heard the bit that the Iceland had no intention of meeting their obligations. At this I said WOW to myself, thinking a lot of folk have lost a lot of money. To me what he then said wasn't clear. He certainly didn't use the phrase you've posted.

I wasn't sure if he meant the UK would cover the money all the money after the passport shortfall, i.e. everything over 20keuros.

Have to wait for listen again for more details to emerge.

It did seem totally obvious to me that Iceland would renege on the hundreds of thousands of UK investers of the passport scheme , since they do not have anything like enough foreign currency to pay out.
