EVeryone should look to buy gold now, as GBP is going to be trashed and inflation will be back to 25% as with the last Labour government's final years.0

Thanks for the info. Just hearing something - good or bad - is better than being kept in the dark.0

I did not hear what AD said on GMTV but he is on the BBC in a few minutes so will listen then.
We need our leaders to help us all out and speed up our claims as without 300,000 of us spending our money due to not knowing how much we have this will impact on our economy in a negative way.
For me I hope we do not have to claim and the accounts can be re opened under control of the Icelandic leaders. I know they will be snowed under with transfer requests but I think this will be a quicker process than going through the FSCS even though I have every confidence in them. It's far better to be penny wise than pound foolish.

Allistar Darling also just mentioned this on R4 he will annouce plans to guarantee deposits in Icesave as the Icelandic government was already in default.0

He just said on Radio 4 the Icelandic Government have no intention of honouring their 20,000 Euros obligation, but that the Brit system will honour both the Icelandic 20,000 euros AND the 'Brit element' (up to £50,000)...
Hope, there, I suppose...0 -
the Icelandic Government have no intention of honouring their 20,000 Euros obligation,
Not seen this, but if true, the passport system has just collapsed completely. I will not mention this to Mrs SB until dear old Alistair has cleared up how they will cover the gap!0 -
What a bloody cheek, thousands of children living in poverty, thousands of pensioners cant afford to even put their heating on, our own soldiers live in shoddy accomodation when they return to army houses..and Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling has the bloody cheek to plough absolute billions into the banking industry..0

The 'no intention' bit was definately used on Radio 4's Today.
The full quote was (something) like 'when I spoke to the icelandic authorities yesterday they made it clear to me that they have no intention of honouring their obligations to our depositors so in these exceptional circumstances, and this is something I wouldn't normally do, we will be honouring those obligations.'
You should be able to get at it on the iPlayer post 9am on listen again. Wind to the 8.10am interview slot and listen - I think he says it about 4-5 minutes in to that segment.
