DLA renewal question

I wonder if anyone here can answer this for me?
I have been told by DLA that I will be sent my daughter's renewel form around Christmas (which surprised me because her renewal date is on her 5th birthday which isn't till June!). Once I've returned the forms and they've been processed, will I be told the decision, or will the decision only be released to me on or close to the renewel date?

    Many thanks

    Vickyh

    Hi Vicky
You are sent the forms to fill in 6 months (normally) prior to the renewal date(this is why you will be sent yours DEC),I guess it gives them time to sort it all out and you will be told of the outcome as soon as they decide which in most cases is before the renewal date(can be a week or months)...if the desision is unchanged then that is great and your payments just continue ,if you get turned down then you can ask for another decision maker to look at it again and if the same outcome you can appeal but that does take months and probably goes past your renewal date (as in your case past your daughters birthday) but if you win the appeal it will all be backdated.......hope iv helped a little

I'm a benefits advocate and send out an average of 4 claims a month.

I spoke to one of your own supervisors, because no renewals were coming back any quicker than that, (no matter how straightforward they were, and no matter who sent them), and I was told, by her, that it is least a 3 month wait because of staffing etc., (In fact, her exact words were that no one should phone before 11 weeks had expired, because they wouldn't go to the DM before that, no matter what).

Check on forums like Youreable or Ouch, and you will find exactly the same thing.

And, this is happening, although they are now sending out letters, after 7 weeks, explaining that there will be a delay.

    Lin :)

Yes this is the same as I have been told by DLA, my son's claim (for the mobility part as he's 3 in Nov) was received at the very beginning of August, I've had 3 letters all telling me there's no decision yet & to keep waiting and to not ring before 11 weeks is up, I had to call regarding something else and enquired about it whilst on the phone and was told that the 11 weeks isn't being met at the minute and it would take much longer as they are dealt with in strict date order.
  • Just as an aside, I've nothing but praise for the DWP. They processed a new claim for me in two weeks. As a cancer patient, there is possibly a priority system in place for certain conditions but obviously can't be sure.
