DLA renewal question

Hi all,
After being turned down for DLA renewal we went to appeal and again failed. The DLA office which issued the forms was Blackpool. However we failed to give up and applied again. This time the forms came from Leeds. And got accepted!!
That was a year and a half ago and now we have received the renewal forms again (current award expires March 09) from Blackpool.
Does anyone know if the Leeds office is still processing forms as seemed to have less hassle with them than the ones at Blackpool???
Many thanks in advance

Hi,
All 'initial' claims (ie first claims to DLA) are dealt with at regional Disability Benefits Units around the country such as the one at Lawnswood in Leeds. All 'renewals' (albeit renewals the are infact new awards) are dealt with at Warbreck House in Blackpool.

It shouldn't make any odds who's dealing with your claim, but be aware, due to understaffing and workload, that there is now a wait of at least 3 months (for straightforward claims), and longer for others, before a decision is given.

I do not know where you obtained that information, but I work for the DWP (DCS) at Warbreck and it simply is not correct.
Yes, we are short of staff, but for what you state to be 'strightforward claims' I take to be new (or as someone kindly pointed out above, renewals are infact new claims to benefit) the turnround is more often than not much less than three months (current average for new claims roughly around 41 working days, just slightly over 8 weeks - bearing in mind some will be faster, others slower depending on circumstance). Recon's and supercessions turn around is also much shorter even than that, as are claims to Attendance Allowance.
We get a bad enough name as it is (usually no fault of us 'coal face' staff) but please don't send out incorrect signals.
To refer back to the OP, as said in a post above, initial claims at regional DBC's, all others at Warbreck Blackpool.

Yes, have to agree here. I sent in my renewal for DLA a few months ago and I was told it was renewed indefinately within three weeks.KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0 -
I phoned up the Blackpool office earlier today about my DLA claim as I had not received a letter telling me that they had received my renewal claim. They said they had received it on the 4th Spetember, but that it would be at least another 6 to 8 weeks until I had a decision. Thats 11 to 13 weeks.
The worring really gets to me, and two people I know have just had their decisions back and each only took 6 weeks from them sending in the forms until them getting the decision letter so I am a bit worried that this means that there will be a problem with my claim.
The other thing the lady on the phone said was "they are still working on June's claims" - I didn't quite understand that!0 -
same here my sons renewal claim was sent end aug early sep so Im expecting a desision just before his 18th birthday end of Nov when he has his last payment and its quite obvious that the decision will be no and then it will be down the apeal route and so dragged out a few more months......unfortunately its a similar story everywhere and for everyone.......:hello:Time2start a new year diet for a new me:j0

I wonder if anyone here can answer this for me?
I have been told by DLA that I will be sent my daughter's renewel form around Christmas (which surprised me because her renewal date is on her 5th birthday which isn't till June!). Once I've returned the forms and they've been processed, will I be told the decision, or will the decision only be released to me on or close to the renewel date?
Many thanks

I'm a benefits advocate and send out an average of 4 claims a month.
I spoke to one of your own supervisors, because no renewals were coming back any quicker than that, (no matter how straightforward they were, and no matter who sent them), and I was told, by her, that it is least a 3 month wait because of staffing etc., (In fact, her exact words were that no one should phone before 11 weeks had expired, because they wouldn't go to the DM before that, no matter what).
Check on forums like Youreable or Ouch, and you will find exactly the same thing.
And, this is happening, although they are now sending out letters, after 7 weeks, explaining that there will be a delay.

Hi,
I sent in my own DLA renewal to Blackpool on 8th of September and had the result (unchanged) back yesterday. Very quick (and no medical this time yippee) so not all claims are taking as long as is possibly being suggested.
