To the OP: unfortunately, Icesave have a clause in their T&Cs which states that they can temporarily suspend access to withdrawals/deposits for up to 60 days in situations where liquidity needs to be re-established. ....but we will just have to see what comes of the next few days and weeks.

To be honest, I doubt their Ts and Cs on this really have much bearing. Any bank whose shares are suspended and then is moved into receivership/administration would almost certainly do the same thing; whether it was pre-ordainded in their Ts and Cs or not.
I would say it would be interesting to now whether other banks have the same conditions, but probably of academic interest only. Basic fact, if there is a run on the bank, the bank closes the doors, physically or virtually.0 -
Do you have any family members who could help you out in the short term?
What can i do?, i have to ask my 60 year old dad for help?...he will help, but it is embarising, considering he "gave" me the car that ended up a write-offFounder member MSE Jet Airways Mile High Club

OK. so you need your car for your job. You said (I think) that the fault lies with the 3rd party, (paraphrase: some "retard went into the back of my car"; as a total aside of no use to you, join the club: mines been in the workshop for the last 6 weeks)
Were they insured? Have they admitted liability? If the answer to the first two is yes, then why are you being asked to return the hire car ? As i recall a number of insurance policies have a time limit on how long you can have a hire car for - under the cirumstances that it is your fault and you have a 'car hire' arrangement with your insurer.
But if its the third parties fault, then they should be paying.
Unless I missed something and they have already paid out but you have it locked up in the savings account.
In which case, you have a problem.0 -

It's a bad situation for everyone, particularly those who have urgent need of the money, but there are many many people in the same boat as you and given that this is the worst crisis in living memory (for most of us) and the Icesave problem is all over the news, I think your dad would understand. I'm not exactly clear what your situation is but there are many other cars out there.0 -

I'm not being funny but can you use public transport temporarily to get to your job? Bus, train etc..
Obviously that won't work if you use your car as part of your job.0 -
Well as a 72 y.o. father I say don't be embarrassed: I'd want to help a child of mine in such a rotten situation, no matter where blame might lie. What can i do?, i have to ask my 60 year old dad for help?...he will help, but it is embarising, considering he "gave" me the car that ended up a write-off0
