Hi
Me and the lass haven't been away this year and we're running seriously low on funds. Our jobs are such that we can rarely get time off together but as it happens we have some time at the end of October where we have an uninterrupted 5 days we can spend together, running from Wed 29 Oct to Sun 2 Nov.
We'd like to go away somewhere for at least some of this time, but I'm struggling to find anything at anything like the price we can afford - I'd be looking at around £300-£350 for the two of us (not including spending money for meals etc) - less if possible! It doesn't have to be abroad, but if it is we're reasonably flexible about where we travel from. It happens I'll be in the Manchester area with work on Tue 28 Oct and it can be arranged that she is too, so we could fly out of there that day otherwise due to our locations we could fly from any London airport, Manchester, Leeds-Bradford or Newcastle, or train on Eurostar. If the break was in the UK location would not be an issue.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated; I know it's not a big budget and it's a big ask to get away for that kind of sum but it doesn't have to be the full 5 days, I just want something special for us.
Cheers
Rich

The problem you may have is that that week is Half Term (up here at least). I don't know if I dare mention Ryanair on here but I did notice that you can get 2 return flights to Dublin from Leeds for £60 (incl taxes but ex cc fee) for some days in that week. The downside is that I have heard that Dublin is expensive these days.0

My three favourite sites for UK self-catering and late deals:
1. http://www.next4weeks.co.uk/ - title says it all really!
2. http://www.therealvisitorsbook.co.uk/realdeals.php - database of guest recommended cottages only - book direct with owners
3. http://www.underthethatch.co.uk/livebooking/availability/availabilitysearch.php
reduce prices as 'vacant' date gets nearer - great ethos
Have a look, why not make them an offer!?

I have just booked a 5 night break (Sunday to Friday) in early November in the Lake District. Half board at the Patterdale Hotel on Ullswater for £150 each. It gets good reviews for value-for-money on TripAdvisor."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Ryan Air's free flight sale is on now and runs til midnight on thursday.
What immediately sprang to my mind is one of the better business class spa hotels I know, the Don Juan at Aguilas, which can be easily reached from both Almeria and Alcudia airports. I've had excellent reports about this hotel. It's supposed to be great for just chilling out.
The going rate is usually around £85 per room per night B&B
http://www.hoteldonjuan.es/en/htm/hotel/Hotel.aspx
I can see the flights with Ryan Air outward for £18 per person but not for the return journey.
Or you could get return flights to Rome for £80 for your dates and book a cosy B&B there for about £85 per night.
As a girl, I'd be impressed by a surprise few days in Rome
It's one of the few places where the location wins hands down over the standard of hotel. The Eternal city has eternal kudos.
Do you have a rough idea of the type of break you would like?0 -
Guys thanks, I'll discuss the options with her.
As much as I'd love to surprise her, we are both experiencing moth syndrome so it's gonna be very much a "joint effort"
Thanks again!#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET
