When will delivery company / couriers / royalmail / Parcel force get there act togethr and modernise their businesses.
They should all be offering evening deliveries for residential customers so those of us that normally work can receive parcels! Its not good business sense to try to deliver things when they realise noone will be in and then try again exactly the same time the next day. Its not environmentally sound either (loads of wasted fuel). In todays climate there must be thousands of people willing to work evenings for some extra cash driving a van around. I doubt they would even have to pay higher saleries.
At least the supermarkets have worked this out with home deliveries!0 -

As someone who regularly gets their 'morning' residential postal delivery after 2 p.m. I sometimes wonder how anything gets delivered at all - never mind on time .
I suspect a sentence containing the words 'backside', 'two hands' and 'map' might be appropriate.
I recently waited in for a furniture delivery - only to get a phone call from the delivery man saying that he couldn't find us, even with Sat Nav! This is on the main A road connecting two major cities .Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Management is more to blame most of the time rather than the poor bloke out in all weathers.. there is no longer any overlap in manning to cover for sickness or low staffing levels other staff have to make up the deficit and if they already have a round of their own to do then is it any wonder that you sometimes get a late delivery... Having adequate staff is the key and in this "get more work done with less staff" mind set of management it just doesn't happen... and its always the face you see that gets the blame...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

i cant comment for the rest but for RM this would mean increasing the fleet of vans massivly
RM's vans are used for deliveries in the am/early afternoon then those vans go out on collection duties until the evening
for xmas RM are proposing evening deliveries however this has to be cleared by the regulator
also bear in mind a lot of couriers have added fuel surcharges to their costs lately,RM has the biggest fleet but cannot do this.
so how would all these evening deliveries be paid for?
as ive said many times you just cant win,my office is open for collections 13 hours a day and open 6 days a week.
yet people complain they cant get to the office
every week you get complaints about deliveries being too early/late etc etc
as for the OP's problem, its not always the courier.ive seen companys offer delivery slots thats couriers dont offer so there is never any chance of a definate delivery slot0 -

You're right - in fact it's often mis-management that's the problem;).
In this particular case, it's the regular postman - rather than someone covering and he just doesn't seem to have any sense of urgency - much like Postman Pat, who I never saw hurry. He's often seen sauntering round, or standing chatting to the local lolly pop man for quarter of an hour.
I think it's more to do with the fact that the previous bloke was always very quick and efficient and that he delivered our post over seven hours earlier:eek:. However that may be to do with the increase in the number of letters and the abolition of the second delivery - I'm sure someone will tell me. It does seem a bit odd that the previous bloke could manage two deliveries before 12.30 though;).Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Know what you mean about posties, our regular postie parks her van as close to the door as she can, if she could get to the door and post the letters without getting out of her van she would. We know when she's on holiday because the letters arrive earlier, the other two posties we have one walks quickly and the other runs everywhere.
As for delivery drivers, dh used to deliver sofa's, the stores did'nt comumicate with the warehouse and the delivery drivers where expected to mind read. On one occasion dh and his mate turned up to a delivery to find a bridge in the way, could'nt go under it, so got the map, upset the sat nav by turning around and arrived at the other end of the road, only to be met by another bridge, even lower than the first one. They then got out and went to find the customer, who said she'd told the shop about the two bridges, but there was nothing on the paper work mentioning the bridges. If had'nt been for the fact that their lorry was 3 car lengths away from the bridge and it was raining they would have carried her sofa under the bridge because she was only the other side of it.
He delivers pallets of stuff to companies now, and the amount of times that he's been given the wrong or incorrect name and or post code. His boss forgets that they are driving 7.5 ton lorries not sports cars and has unrealistic expectations of how long it will take for them to travel between deliveries.0 -

lol if youre talking about the pre 1 delivery system then things have changed just a touch
eg posties dont leave the office until a good 3-4 hours later than they used
the routes will be a good 50% bigger(or more) now
packet numbers have risen year on year
plus dutys have been changed massivly, you may have originally been at the tart of a smaller route, now at the end of a larger route
however to show the flip side of your 'efficient' postie
when i got my last foot duty i had a complaint put in about me in writing to the managers
the complaint was that i didnt stop and talk to an old lady on the duty
you see,you cant win0
