Have I understood this correct , if I pay £100 on a credit card and the other £5000 on a debit card for my flights I should be able to put in a claim for the full amount if the airline or travel agent went bust ?0

I bought a Dell Studio 1558 laptop for £680 in September 2010 and paid for it all on my M&S credit card. The warranty was for 1 year.
My laptop has now, without explanation, died - I used it on Wed without a problem, shut it down, put it away and now it won't reboot. I've put a post on the techie board to see if anyone can help and failing that I will take it to a computer shop locally.
I just want to know, for my own peace of mind, if I will have any recourse with the credit card company if the laptop is dead? I'm panicking as I am a student so need a computer but can't afford a new one right now
Thanks0 -

Any amount, (even £1.), on a CC and the whole lot falls under S75 no matter how the rest is paid, so yes you are covered for the full amount as long as all the criteria are followed.

Company you purchased from first as you bought it from them, (under SoGA), after this length of time they will probably ask for an engineers report, this will be recoverable if the fault was inherent, if the report is in your favour and the company won't play ball you can go after the CC issuer as they are equally liable under S75.

I have applied to the bank (whose credit card was used in the transaction) for return of a £2k deposit against a £34k incompleted order with a company which has gone into administration.
I have been told that section 75 does not apply for purchases over £30k. (To date I have paid £14k of the total order price.)
Is there any way I can get my £2k deposit back?
I have read that under the recent Consumer Credit Directive, I am covered for purchases between £30k and £60,260, but the bank tells me this is a legal matter and that I have to send them evidence of this directive!!0 -
Can I clarify a situation re: refunds from Visa.
I ordered a bath from a sellers shop on eBay (who also have an independent website) and paid through Paypal.
The bath sat on the palette until it was ready to be fitted. On taking it out to be fitted, it had a hole in it. The panels also did not fit together. The whole product was in general very low quality.
The company are taking nothing to do with it, instead accusing me of damaging it myself. Can I claim from Visa for the cost?
Thanks
Edited: this was paid on a Visa Debit card.

Not sure why you are only wanting £2k back instead of all you paid but I'm sure you have a reason..
They are correct in that Section 75 does not apply to purchases over £30k, however Section 75a, in specific instances does cover claims of over £30k to £60260.
You on the face of it would seem to meet that criteria.
However I would suggest you look up that specific section to decide if it meets your circumstances and if you think it does then I would suggest you go through the banks complaint process. If they do not give way pass it to the Ombudsman for final decision.
Last I heard the banks were arguing that this was only for cards taken out for a specific purpose so might be a fight."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

You are not covered under Section 75 as it was a debit card, actually as it was paid through paypal you would not be be covered anyway.
You can try a chargeback but you may be out of time at this point."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Understand about Section 75 as not a credit card, (I say I, it was actually my partner that put through the transaction - could kill him!)
This was only last month - I thought the time limit was 120 days? It is the Halifax Bank of Scotland if that helps any.
Thanks for your help.
