Section 75 refunds - article discussion

I bought a computer from Amazon in the US using a credit card. I've had it seven months and the screen has failed. Can I claim a refund from my credit card provider?
(The problem is that while the computer could be fixed under warranty, the serial number has been rubbed off the back, and I can't send it in without a serial number. Toshiba recommended I contact the CC provider to get the serial number, which should be on the their receipt, but as far as I can see it isn't!)
Many thanks,
Joe

Unfortunately, it's a Chromebook, so I don't think it has an individual serial number inside. And as it's screen is broken, I can't read or run software on it anyway! (I've tried hooking the hdmi port to my TV, but only get a screensaver.)0

But if that's not possible, a section 75 claim will be needed. For that you'd need photos of the damaged item to provide to the credit provider, or an independent report to confirm the problems with the product.0 -
Hi, first post ever so hope I'm posting right.
We brought tickets to see Charlie and the Chocolate factory for last night, however due to the tube strike we were unable to get there, travelling with 2 young children so not worth the hassle. When we first heard of strike action we contacted ticket master who we brought them from to see if we had any options of re selling them or changing performance dates, we were told no nothing we can do. Once the strike had been confirmed we called again to see once again if we could do anything (worth a try) again told no - try sell them on gumtree was all we were told. Tried selling them but no joy! Tuesday we called ticket master again to see if there stance had changed, it had not but this time we were told had you called us 2 wks ago we could have re-sold them on our site?!?! WHAT was our response, we had not been told this, oh sorry nothing we can do now! So that all aside what I would like to know is can I claim under section 75 as I purchased on my barclaycard? They were over £100 so a lot of money to lose.
Thanks in advance, any help would be great.0 -

Short answer no, the show is going ahead, its not up to the credit card to get you there, what you paid for was supplied0 -

If not, that rules Section 75 out straight away.
From the article:if a suit jacket and trousers are individually priced at £60 each, you're not covered, but if you buy the suit as a whole for one price of £120, you are covered.0 -
Hi All,
Please could someone advise if this is something that would be covered under Section 75.
Last year we hired a car in Austria which was prepaid on a debit card.
When we collected the car we gave our credit card for a security deposit. When we got home we found that the credit card had been charged £319 for damage to the car which we didn't do.
We have tried numerous times to get the money back from the car hire company but they are refusing to budge.
Can anyone please advise on this?
Mike
This has happened to us except the car was hired in the UK. They are claiming a full valet including fag ash (utter baloney) and fixing the seat height adjustment (never touched it). Exactly £1000 + vat so not even an attempt to match the bill to cost. They've taken the £250 deposit and sent a bill for the rest. Any chance of section 75 for the £250?. Thanks0 -
Europcar Ebbsfleet are attempting to defraud us of £1200 for fictitious damage.
In the course of this they have just charged the credit card without our authority. I expect I can persuade Visa to refund it tomorrow, but is this actually a crime?0 -
Regarding both hire company queries - some hire companies don't even bother repairing the cars and simply sell it off in the current condition.
Also pressure is placed upon branch managers to "increase profits."
Did they inspect the vehicle with you at the time it was returned? If not, you should hopefully have no problems getting the money back.0 -
Hello all, can anyone help me with this :
In May I bought a computer from Aliexpress (one of Alibaba's sites). It worked for a few weeks and then stopped working, I m trying to claim under section 75 of my credit card, they have mentioned that I may not be covered, giving Paypal as an example.
I m aware that Paypal purchases are not covered by section 75, but I thought I would be covered by section 75 using my credit card on Aliepxress/Alibaba.
Aliexpress appears on my credit card receipt, as opposed to Paypal and the Paypal user's name appearing if I had bought using Paypal. Anyone know if I will be covered or not ? Thanks0
