I'm an accidental powerseller.

About 6 months ago I sold a lot of high value engine tuning parts and, as a result, I made enough money and sold enough items to become a power seller. I knew it wouldn't last, since I normally sell much lower value items.
Anyway, it's been very interesting to see how the "wonderful Ebay community" thing works. I see Powerseller "status" as a way that Ebay pretend to love you, but really just want to motivate people to sell more things to keep Ebay earning. I've not used any of the Powerseller features, and I'll probably be kicked out at the end of this month. I don't care though; I never asked for it in the first place.

i think the powerseller logo might give you a bit more credibility to buyers as well
i'm pushing the edge of getting it for selling 100 or more items per month (won't make it on the £750/month in sales) should make it next month i think. i'm looking forward to it to be honest the forums should be useful and i think the logo will boost sales from concerned buyers. it will also make me more credible to the people i'm trying to get to use me as a trading assistant!founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -

Ive heard that the I.R are starting to look into ebay sellers who arent declaring what they are making?

Personally I've had more problems with powersellers than with ordinary sellers. PS know they are less likely to kicked off for minor infringments and slip in little nasties sometimes like high p and p charges because they know ebay will give them a little more leeway.

You don't have to make £750 profit a month, you just have to turn that over. So a seller can buy 5 mobile phones at £100 each and sell them at £150 each and make the £750 and still only have gross profit of £250 before fees, tax and all costs.

Snap. Every problem I've had, and they've been major, has been with power sellers. I didn't know they got more lee2aqy though.
They have a few negs that don't affect their percentage much so they don't care what they do. (I'm not suggesting I use negative feedback as a threat, but it can't be a detterant if it means nothing to get a positive can it?)
I try to avoid them if I can.0 -

I would say that would be unfair. The chances are, if you're buying, you're more likely to be dealing with a PowerSeller because they are shifting the volume, i.e. they're the main people actually listing the auctions.
It's hard to maintain a high feedback even if you have sold 100's of items, without looking after your customers. It only takes a couple of idiots to start knocking your percentage down. As a PowerSeller I can't even Neg the idiots that bid & win and then don't pay, because they can Neg you, even though they have not purchased the item. So you relist and hope they don't decide to Neg you for fun.
A buyer with low feedback can just open a new user ID if he gets a couple of Negs.
My advice on checking a PowerSeller feedback is to look at the recent comments not the overall percentage. Buyers are actually quite good at leaving genuine comments, not just AAA+++. This gives a good indication of the actual service they've received as opposed to the number of transactions that have taken place without major incident or unhappiness0
