Until you produce CCTV evidence showing Martin held a gun to your head and forced you to take out the account, I am taking Martin's side. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
            Well, here's the current situation:

Is it really a year ago that I posted "Is this the end of Internet Banking..?

Ah, the ridicule. I remember it well.
I would not blame Mr Lewis. You are the victim of several factors. But, to paraphrase what I said in that post, it is a huge risk to place your money in any Establishment where the only method of access is via the Internet. I would never do it, regardless of where the Bank was located...
Incidentally, though I read Martin's thoughts and views with interest (no pun intended) I employ the services of an IFA for advice, then make my own decisions.0 -

What a smug but totally irrelevant comment. If you had a passbook account and lived right next door to the Central Reykjavik branch of Landesbank you still wouldn't get your money out.
As it is, thanks to the wonders of this interweb thingummy, I was able to whistle up a CHAPS transfer from the comfort of my armchair on Sunday evening, with the result that, by yesterday evening, my erstwhile Icesave deposit was nestling all nice and cosy in my Nationwide current account.
FWIW, I have nearly 30 years' IT experience in banking and finance and I expect internet banking to go from strength to strength, once the current banking crisis is over.Je suis Charlie.0 -

My, my. People are so touchy here.FWIW, I have nearly 30 years' IT experience in banking and finance...
And your point is?...I expect internet banking to go from strength to strength, once the current banking crisis is over.
If, by "strength to strength", you mean expanded use, I fear you may be right.
My original post, which this one reminded me of, was merely pointing out that I, personally, with twenty-odd years IT experience and, more importantly, forty-odd years experience of thinking for myself, would never sign up for anything money-related where my only access was via the Internet.
Since making that point I have seen nothing to alter my opinion. In fact, just the opposite.0 -

Go read the old thread you linked to, you started it with the "I work in IT therefore I am right" nonsense.darktrader wrote: »My original post, which this one reminded me of, was merely pointing out that I, personally, with twenty-odd years IT experience and, more importantly, forty-odd years experience of thinking for myself, would never sign up for anything money-related where my only access was via the Internet.

Whatever the intention of your original, old post, clearly your only intention now was to show us what a clever little smart-alec you are. Fine, you carry on running around with your tatty little passbook whilst the rest of us continue to reap the rewards of the best interest rates and the lowest charges.Je suis Charlie.0 -

I thought my timely reminder of a warning I gave a year ago of the risks of Internet-only banking was most useful.
Go read the old thread you linked to, you started it with the "I work in IT therefore I am right" nonsense.
I remember it well, but have just re-read it and am unable to find that sentence or anything like it. I would have thought if you work in IT and Finance you would have developed keener interpretative skills and an eye for (accurate) detail.Whatever the intention of your original, old post, clearly your only intention now was to show us what a clever little smart-alec you are. Unless you have invested in a Bust Bank somewhere in Iceland (I ask you...)
And all my Passbooks are very neat, thank you, as I keep them in their plastic covers.
And thanks for the financial advice. I’m sure it is sound... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I must say that my post I made on Friday about me taking my money out of Icesave was met with quite a rabid response. Names were directed at me, and the attitude was we're right, you're a lemming. Well, I made the RIGHT choice and my instinct held me in good stead.
I'm not surprised. Don't post here much and I suddenly remember why. As you obviously took the corrrect decision some Posters will probably want to burn you at the stake now.
(Used to be such a friendly place.)
Well done, by the way. Usually pays to follow your instincts.0 -
I was assured by Mr Lewis my investment was safe
No you were not. None of us were.0
