K.E. Saved by the bell

  • "Sounds like KE have been saved from another lemming"

Is there really any need for such sarcasm?

    Yep, I'd say so.

What banks don't need now is people panic shifting money.

And no one needs a bell-end.

Switch hitters like you make me laugh.

A bank is incompetent and runs in to trouble.

Savers understandbly wish to steer for safer waters, so it is their fault and not the banks flawed business model which is to blame.

I think you have got the situation the wrong way round.

I'd certainly agree they prefer the more compliant customer.

The repeated use of this term by many similar minded posters here is rather amusing.

Anyway, once more for the hard of thinking.

The lemmings are the ones who fall over the cliff to their death.

NOT the ones who try to save themselves.[

I really can't see how you can knock people for taking there money out from a, well let's face it, a failing bank. To me it is SENSIBLE

Clearly KE seems to be the last still standing "in good order" bank in Iceland. They do say on their website that 70% of their business is out of Iceland so that's good news I guess in terms of their financial stability. Given that they operate in several countries they seem quite big and I think that if they were to go bust other countries would help if Iceland can't.

I find it hard to believe that "we" as a whole in europe will lose any money. If that happens imagine what will happen to the Icelandic economy/reputation and what effect it will have to the stock markets. I think they will prevent any bank from going bust at all costs.

I'm afraid the whole use of the lemmings analogy is in error anyway. It a popular myth, but a myth all the same, that lemmings deliberately hurl themselves off the top of cliffs to die.

'Rats leaving a sinking ship' might be a bit nearer the mark, but then who in their right mind wouldn't try to get off a sinking ship?

FWIW, I have less than 50K with KE, and I'm staying put, I've been checking all morning and the site works fine, can log it as usual.

KE have been good to me via interest rates and service, so I feel it's only fair to do the same in times of crisis, and let's face it, it's a UK bank, with the full 50K FSCS protection, so you even have a guarantee!

But I have my own mind, I'm not one of Martin's sheep.

KE have so far acted very well for me - I have nothing there at risk (all under 50K), and should the worst happen, I'll get it all back via the FSCS scheme.

I have other worries with Icesave!
