A few days ago I opened an account with Kaupthing Edge on recommendation from this site. Yesterday afternoon I moved £40k from a saving account to my cheque book account in order to transfer to KE. I decided to log on to the new KE account. In error I did not read the letter correctly re the one time password. Tried what I thought was the correct password and the account was locked.
So decided to get the account reset and telephoned KE. This is an 0845 (1) number (premium?) First try after listening to crap about how busy they were this time ( as well as the giggling at the end of the message) and after 10 minutes gave up. Tried again with out success and sent a message of disapproval via there contact Email.
Later last evening I came back to Marty Lewis to see if others were having problems getting through. As a result I learnt about the difficulties in Iceland.
Thank you Kaupthing Edge for not answering the telephone help line. I have binned my account details. Hello AA Term!

Lol! Nice to hear a good news story associated with Icelandic banks - even if perhaps not for the right reasons.

Log in account without any problem. The AA is offering 7.21% rate for one year term. And KE is 7.15%
If you didn't deposit money into KE yet, of course look for the AA.0 -

Sounds like KE have been saved from another lemming0 -
FWIW, I have less than 50K with KE, and I'm staying put, I've been checking all morning and the site works fine, can log it as usual.
Note to the people that seem to have it against us regulars, I don't work for KE, or any bank, nor anything else financially related! I';m just looking for good interest rates for my savings, KE have been good to me via interest rates and service, so I feel it's only fair to do the same in times of crisis, and let's face it, it's a UK bank, with the full 50K FSCS protection, so you even have a guarantee!0 -
It's just been announced that icesave has gone into recievership.. looks like the icelandic banking sector is in very, very deep waters and is struggling to keep afloat in a major way. :shocked:Love your son.0

The repeated use of this term by many similar minded posters here is rather amusing.
Anyway, once more for the hard of thinking.
The lemmings are the ones who fall over the cliff to their death.
NOT the ones who try to save themselves.0 -

However the only reason they are falling to their death is through blindly following what the rest of their kind are doing without wondering why
FWIW people can do what they like with their money, I have a few grand in KE and its staying put.. nowhere near the 50k limit. If I had more than that I may be a little more twitchy.0 -

It's not falling to their death though? It's moving from a high interest rate account with high risk to a lower interest rate account with lower risk. If it was taking out money and hiding it in their oven then maybe the analogy would be fair. Sheep, as opposed to lemmings. But those who use these forums are relatively clued-up financially compared to the rest of the country so are more likely to have taken a rational decision based on their personal appetite for risk and needs. So a bit of respect, instead of those who have decided not to move money playing the name-calling game because they're worried about a run and losing cash.0 -

Is there really any need for such sarcasm?Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. - Albert Einstein.

I suppose it just seems to me that leaving requires more thought than staying put.
But you've captured the essence of the situation in the second part, to my mind anyway.
I suspect most sensible people would think that way. So much so indeed that there's no need for any big dispute over this.0
