Telephone,Net and Sky

At the moment in my house we are paying around £54 per month for the telephone and internet with BT. It is internet broadbad and has a fairly good connection speed (2.2mbps i think). We also have sky in both my son and daughters rooms. They are both the normal sky box and as it was my son who got his box first, both of them have the sky sports package. Which for the record both are happy with. This including multiroom is £46 per month. My daughter has recently mentioned that she wants Sky+. My son who is quite stubborn has just asked that nothing gets touched and things remain the same as he doesnt want to spend anymore on a new box etc. Is it possible first of all that my daughter could get a sky+ box in her room although she at the momemnt is the "multiroom".
I have also considered whether or not i could be getting a better package overall with the 3facilities. Although both my son and daughter contribute the overall amount getting paid out each month is a minimum of £100. I had looked at NTL but my son is desperate to keep Sky Sports Xtra due to the european football that is on that.
I am totally confused as to what the best option would be because im sure i am overspending.

Hi keano05,
Welcome to MSE.
I hope that you don't mind, but I am going to move your thread over to the phones board where you should get more replies.

As it looks like you need Sky, I won't go into the cable option.
Yes, you daughter can have Sky+. At the moment, you are using 2 sky feeds (one for each of the two boxes) - To have Sky+, the 2nd box will need an additional feed. Sky support up to 4 feeds from a single dish, so you won't have a problem seeing as you'll be needing three feeds.
On the phone & internet side of things, who is you ISP and what package are you on?
Finally, does that cost for phone & broadband include cost of calls, or was that just the rental?0 -
ISP is with BT. The package is anytime broadband which is £17.99 each month im sure. The £54 i said is an average month including the cost of calls.0

On the broadband side of things.....On the BT £17.99pm package, you are getting 2Mbps with a 2GB usage limit. There are a few standard BT wholesale ISP's that offer up to 2Mbps for around £14.99pm without data transfer caps (allowing to send/receive more than possible with your existing account). This may not be a problem at the moment, but could be if you start using something that uses high amounts of data (eg streaming radio or video).
Take a look at PlusNet's £14.99 Broadband Plus account.
Also take a look at some of the LLU providers (may provide a faster service for a relatively small charge)....Bulldog, UKOnline, Freedom2surf, Homechoice, Bethere.co.uk (Be Un limited). Put your postcode in to see if you can receive any of their services. Watch out for UKOnline as they have a 12 month contract.
If you want to get an idea of the quality of service, or any problems any of the ISP's may have, then take a look at https://www.adslguide.org and their message boards.
For your telephone.....Take a look at the Hoem Phone forums on this site, and consider using an alternative calls provider. Sounds like you're paying quite a bit for your calls (£54 less £17.99 BT Broadband less £10.50 line rental = approx £25 in call charges). Take a look at call1899, 18185.co.uk and call18866. Each require you to dial their short 4/5 digit number prior to all calls, but this can save you a significant amount (eg call connection fee of 3p or 4p, but 0p per minute for UK geographical calls).0
