Ah, at last - a thread that isn't all doom and gloom

This is the most sensible response I've seen to this turmoil. I have a fixed rate bond with Icesave, way more than is covered by the deposit protection. I can do nothing about it, and all this news / discussion is doing is putting me on a rollercoaster of hope and despair. A news blackout is called for in my house. After all, it's only money in the end...0

Another one here with both fixed rate and ISA accounts in Icesave. I'm actually glad they've suspended withdrawals for now as the way things were going last night with everyone panicking to withdraw their savings the bank could have ended up in a whole lot worse position.
I didn't sleep too easy last night but there's nothing I can do about it, only hope and pray my savings, along with many others', are safe and we will get them back at some point

snap. We are in fixed rates too, until aug 2009. No point worrying but I have printed off all statements this morning, in case we need evidence for claims0

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that! :T“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
snap!! Was on contemplating taking my ISA out last night but thought I would leave it until this morning ...... too late!! Also have three fixed rate bonds to mature December, July 09 and August09. As all the above people say, don't watch the news, there is nothing we can do about it except keep our fingers crossed! Only trouble is being retired I won't ever be able to earn that kind of money again.0

I just printed mine off.... So glad my natwest account with about 13K in needs 30 days notice or my money would be in icesave by now.Savings

Well they way I'm looking at it now is that the reason I chose a fixed account is because I don't need my money right now and wouldn't have access to it until next June in any case. Hopefully by then the economy will have stabilised and fingers crossed the money will still be available, either directly from the bank or by way of a compensation scheme.
As to the ISA, I know many people have withdrawn their's by CHAPS, therefore losing their current ISA status, but again this wasn't something I was happy about doing and a transfer out would take far too long in the current climate and there's no saying Icesave will allow any transfer applications made yesterday to be completed

Hi All,
First off, If I'm asking a question that's already been asked, I apologise.
My partner and I each have a 1 year bond with Icesave which matures at the end of November. If Icesave does go into liquidation, does anybody know if we will get back our original investment PLUS interest earned, or just the initial deposit? I know I should think myself lucky if I get the initial deposit back, I'd just like to know what to expect. I also read (on Times online I think) that the european compensation amount is be raised to 35,000 euros - does anybody know if this is the case?0
