LANDSBANKI GUERNSEY
Hi... I just posted this on another Forum...
Some information... Yesterday I emailed Victoria Derbyshire on 5-Live, and they contacted me and I told them live on air what was happening to Landsbanki Guernsey. They are very sympathetic with our plight, and I have had another email from the BBC this morning. They wish to follow up this story and find out if there is a way round our situation. In the meantime I will supply them with facts as I get them. As soon as anyone has anything concrete, please post it here and I will forward it to my contact at 5-Live.
BBC Radio 5 just emailed me to say the Money correspondent Pauline McCole said the Treasury extended protection to off-shore accounts in the Channel Islands for Bradford and Bingley and may come under pressure to do the same for all the other banks.0 -
Me too - they must be turning out the lights, waiting for the Receivers.0
-
SwedenRed - Good work - can you advise who best to email there? Maybe if a few of us (both Landsbanki and Kaupthing customers) write to them it'll increase the chances of them following up our case...
Re: the Bradford & Bingley protection - that's interesting. Alsoo worthy to note is when UK Govt put Northern Rock Offshore under temporary public ownership they protected NR Offshore as well.... but on the other hand both those were UK banks.0 -
Just found the following link to the previous failure.
http://www.archive.official-documents.co.uk/document/cm41/4109/d-chap17.htm
This was paid for by the IoM tax payers, based on the UK scheme in place at the time. It was this event that forced them to create the current 15,000 scheme.
The BCCI IoM is the only time that the current scheme has been activated.
This was in 1991 and the scheme has "just made the last payment"
All 4 speakers (MPs) up to know have insisted that the new scheme should include KSF customers.
New scheme involves the 40 remaining banks paying 500,000 per bank per year.
A proposal to add an ammendment limiting the payback period to 5 years!!0 -
Kaupthing Edge (IoM) website changed with a press announcement page
Kaupthing Edge (IoM) login no longer working
KSF(IoM) website still up
Oh well... at least it'll save me logging in every half hour to see if anything's changed..... sigh0 -
Re B&B ... I have funds in B&B (IOM). Is that suggesting that the UK Govt is considering extending protection to cover funds in IOM held by a subsidiary of a UK-based institution?
However, I'm [hoping?] that Santander's strength covers B&B(IOM) ... or is that me picking a wrong horse again?0 -
A website has already been set up a moment ago with the aim of setting up an action group. www.iwantmymoneylandsbanki.com
RE the BBC...For now, please allow me to keep Contact because Victoria said she will follow up our case. They email me anything relative, and I will post it here. Now we have her onboard, I wouldnt like to pi** her off in any way.
There is also another forum here... http://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/t/landsbanki-guernsey-26064.aspx?PageIndex=6
Lots and lots of relative info and help, and info on the action group.0 -

Great stuff, thanks. Keep watching this forum and also the one on http://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/t/kaupthing-singer-amp-friedlander-iom-isle-of-man-25211.aspx?PageIndex=3
People are posting their (often distressing) stories there.
I think I have said before that it is a quirk of how the KSF group is structured that KSF IOM has been left behind in this instance when (say) B&B International got the benefit of a UK bail-out.
We need concerted efforts ourselves and the help of the media to get this extension of the UK support. Clearly the IOM are under-resourced for these circumstanced.
There is a request on that forum for someone to coordinate this online, but I'm afraid I don't have the tech savvy to do that - I'd be more than willing to make a contribution to any cost of doing so if someone else can though.0 -
Swedenred,
Would it be appropriate to include all Icelandic banks here - this would bring in more people and have a louder voice.0 -
SwedenRed - I guess your personal concern is Landsbanki Guernsey, but could you kindly remind Victoria or Pauline at the BBC about us Kaupthing IOM customers too? Thanks.0
