freezing fresh garlic

Hi use fresh Garlic reguarly and always use a mini chopper to chop it up. I was thinking of choping up a whole batch and putting it into icecube trays and freezing it to saving getting out the mini chopper each time. Anyboby know if this will work or any better ideas. Thanks in advance

Yep, it'll be just fine. A friend of mine does this regularly. :)

Instead of freezing you can also store it in a jar covered with oil. That way you get garlic infused oil too
  • cheers good to know, sometimes don't use it all before it goes bad

Personally this is the way I would go. I love infused oils and having a base like that one, then being able to add other herbs and spices as a variation, yummy!!

All Asian ladies I know keep chopped garlic stored in flat-ish patties between cling film sheets in the freezer, and when they need some they just chop a piece for use. I have seen the same thing done with green chillies and also with coriander!

Doesn't it stink the freezer out? (for want of a better phrase lol!) I know that when I put sliced onion in plastic boxes in the freezer, it takes a few days for the smell to subside.
  • Hello....

Garlic bulbs freeze very well. Just pop the bulbs in one of those re-sealable bags, squeeze out the air and seal. The site below has some useful tips on freezing all kinds of vegetables. Just scroll down to garlic. :D

    Hope this helps.

Asda sell chopped garlic in the freezer section, they are in clove size portions and they have just had oil added to them. So I guess the icecube tray will be ideal.

This is a tempting idea. I wonder if it would work to put a few dozen cloves in the blender then freeze it in spoonfuls. We get through loads of garlic and I hate cleaning the crusher.
