Not impressed with nokia n96

Well I was not quite sure if it was the right move or not, recieved my N96 today after having n95-8GB (which I loved) and I am totally disappointed. I guess it must be me, but it feels cheap, plasticy & fragile, I've promised myself to give it a few days, but after only a few hours i'm not so sure I can .
Points I don't like thus far:
  • The thumb button is very narrow and starts to become uncomfortable after a while and the centre button needs smaller thumb than mine
  • The thin back cover I am not convinced will survive a drop from any height at all and is very fiddly to remove and replace.
  • Menus appear less responsive than even the N95-2
  • I don't like the smooth keyboard, I like to feel the buttons
  • The multimedia buttons feel very cheap.
  • Overall feel of plastic !!
Points I like
  • the little stand to prop it up to watch videos
  • The 3.5 mm jack is now on the end rather then the side
Think I'm going to send it back, but the question is what else to get Anyone else feel let down?

  • well the n96 has a slower processor than the n958gb. it also lacks the 3d graphics chip of the n958gb, and it also uses the old style battery from the silver n95 (the one with really bad battery life).

I *did* tell ya not to open it and to sell it on ebay instead :P lol

Part of the Furniture 100 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
I have found exactly the same.

Was going to stick my n95 8gb on eBay but now looks like it may be the N96.

I have already updated the software to v11 as v10 kept crashing.

There are going to be a lot of dissapointed n96 owners.
  • Was waiting For this as my N95-1 is 18 months old.

    Inferior camera sensor
    Slower CPU
    No GPU
    Cheap plastics
Same battery as my two year old £100 phone
    No new features, why Dvb-H?

    Review here: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n96-review-286.php

Are they just producing something cheap to milk high tier contracts?

I'm gonna wait for the much much cheaper 5800 maybe thats what they want.

    End of rant.

TBH, after using it for a day now, it has started to grow on me, it's just that the feel is very different from the N95-2.
    A few more positives :-
    • you can disable the requirement for apps to be signed !! not tried it yet, but have turned it off!
    • GPS Lock seems lightning fast now, (locked in less than 10 seconds)
    A few more negatives :-
    • It seems the voda version has removed all shortcuts to the DVB-H functionality (I know it would be useless in the UK anyway) so I could not even use it if I was abroad... I think I'd have to debrand it if was to keep it.
    • Damn annoying flashing envelope in to right hand corner that won't stop flashing !
Battery life does not seem any worse than N95-2

    Regards
