I just want to second what MsChazzer has said.

Please get him an appointment with his GP BEFORE he stops taking the prozac. There is different medications to try and it could be more dangerous to stop taking it abruptly or without medical supervision.

As a general rule, I was told it is safest to take twice as long withdrawing slowly from the newer anti-ds as the person is on it. So six months on and 12 months reducing it iyswim?

And, without wanting to worry you any more, he may well be at risk of suicide without the meds anyway.

Please try and take care of yourself too. Are you getting any support for yourself?
  • when we sent the dla form off we first took it into gp and they wrote on it, then they were approached direct by dla and wrote a longer more in depth report.

My younger sons has some similar problems. I filled in dla myself first but i had to appeal and did this with the help of an advocacy worker who is employed by our local health authority , i think most health authorites have one but you have to ask! it a good alternative to CAB etc and was contacted by gp, the appeal went through quickly and smoothly.

I think some mental illness runs in families. Unfortunatly in my familiy it goes back at least 4 generations in both sides of the family tree. I myself have scitzo-affective disorder which which is what i am sure my son has got also. I get dla for myself which is an indefinate award. I sent loads of supporting evidence in with it and also had a medical. My son has got the support of his doctor and support worker but dla is nortiously hit and miss.

I hope your son gets better soon. My son does not live at home because his mental health problems led to social servies taking an "interest" in my young daughter(who is disabled) and the only way to safe-guard her not being taken into care was to throw him out. He has just moved into supported housing for young adults with physical and mental health disabilities. I am hoping he will thrive there.
