New Years Resolutions

Its almost that time of the year again where we make our New Years Resolutions...
Last year, mine was to pay off the rest of my debt, and by jove I did it (part of me expected not to as it seemed like an impossible task!!)..
For the past god knows how many years, "Pay off Debt" has always featured on my list somewhere, along with "Lose Weight" - and now since I wont have the "Pay off Debt" one, Ive been thinking about what I want to achieve next year. ("Lose Weight" is still on there, but I am determined this time as want to be thin for when I go travelling!! Figure, the thinner I am the less I'll have to pack.....!??? ;0)
What are your NYR's? Do you want to have paid X amount of debt off by X? Do you want to save a little more? Or be more "Money Saving" or more "Old Style"?
Most of all I want to be happy, but I am still working on this, but one by one I am knocking down all of the barriers (debt, weight...), I am sure I shall find it somewhere. Money definately doesnt make you happy!!!!
Rambling over, I want to hear about YOU.
xx

Good topic, alots changed this year financially for me, which has been helped by both the fact that i've been more strict with myself, and also moral support from my OH.
I think my New Years Resolution (and I have refused point blank to make them in the past) is going to be to stop living a life in debt and start living one in credit. Fingers crossed by the end of this year I will have cleared my old CC's, I have already finished paying off my car from last year, which will then leave me with one CC (small balance) and my overdraft. My mission then will be to worm my way out of the overdraft and then bin it off! HSBC have had enough money from me over the years, it's time they started paying me interest!

Well basically, make sure I live below my means, pay more off debt and more savings and cut grocery bills back to £150 per month.0

I ve never made a NY resolution in my life, so now you've inspired me to make and stick to one.
Ideally I d like to start beating down that student loan by saving £50 extra a month but the main one I am determined to do is to not overspend on my wages - just for one month to see it in the black.0 -
my new years resolution is to make the best of my disposable income by trying to get something back from every purchase I make ie use money off vouchers/extra points vouchers/bogofs/free gifts etc so that I have more to put towards my debt.'Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and fairy tales, thats's all she ever thinks about riding with the wind' - Little wing, Jimi Hendrix0

Mine is to save enough money to decorate my kids bedroom, it really is in a state and I feel bad for them and feel like a cr*p parent. I am saving £50 a month for that. Apart from their room I want to carry on being a MSE and SAVE SAVE SAVE!!! :TMortgage-free wannabe!0

I have been in debt since I've been 18 and always thought that because I could afford the payments with my salary it didn't really matter.. The debts just got higher and higher with one consolidation loan after another..
I got married last year and my partner was pretty much the same as me in his attitude to debts..
However, I am now 26 and have finally had my lightbulb moment mainly because I want to buy a house...
So my NY resolution is to pay off debts (no mean feat but we have been doing really well, totally cut down on socialising, I have a part time job in a bar and my husband is getting extra freelance work) and also to buy my first home... Really looking forward to achieving this.. and the good thing is I feel so much more in control and like it can be done

Good topic Ms London. Ok, my New Years Resolution is to ensure I go to the gym at least twice a week, to learn how to park (I'm serious, just cannot reverse to save my life and it can mean parking about a mile away from where I want to be due to my incompetency!), to do my utmost to have the career change I really want (I have applied for the course and will hopefully have an interview Feb/March time), and to build up my savings.
Gosh now I look at this long list it makes me realise how I go a bit mad setting goals and targets sometimes
Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams
