I was too going to mention the Banff Fairmont Springs hotel.. book now for a Sunday brunch, yes book now as it is wonderful and is always fully booked way early.
We stayed in Banff last July had a great time, this place and Whistler were my highlights of the Canadian Rockies.
This looks fab:j will book as a 1 off seems a bit pricey to me  or is this about the going rate for a meal in banff
will have to pay 4 adult prices and 1 child price here as son is 11:rolleyes: . thanks for all the advice:beer: 0 -
Hopefully the temps will be fine for you in February but....... be prepared! [....] Europe just plays with weather while the USA/Canada get the full feature length version. If you get there in a cold spell you will not believe just how cold it can get. Keep a look out for decent thermals in the sales here. If you are too hot you can always take layers off, if you are too cold you don't want to be paying through the nose for decent underlayers.
Totally agree with this, I was amazed at how cold we felt at times & I never usually feel the cold. As soon as the sun goes in, the temps just plummet. It's super dry too, I used bucket loads of moisturiser & a couple of lip balms whilst we were there. I was just getting used to it when we came home... I'd go back in an instant though, loved it so much. In fact plotting next visit right now...
We got our car from National at Calgary, but there is at least a National & Avis in Banff down near the river.0 -

No this is higher than the going rate, but it is a higher class and more than a treat. You will get a highland piper playing as you enter this old castle like hotel and it is in a wonderful setting and location. Worth paying the little extra and as i have said book well in advance even now as it does get fully booked you will have no chance of turn up on the day and eating. You wont be dissapointed.:hello: Lets all save a £ or two, lets all earn a £ or two, and lets all enjoy spending that £ or two wisely.

Hi i'm not staying at the banff springs hotel just going there for sunday brunch :j . We are flying into calgary from manchester early feb, paying £2300 for 6 of us staying at the inns of banff, we got a great deal
. can't wait to go:T :T :T . 0 -
Did you sort out car rental.
If flying in to Calgary i wonder are you having a night over there before heading off, if you were or arriving at a reasonable time try thinking of maybe going to Lake Louise from Calgary then off to Banff. Will get a high tourist place visited and out of the way without loosing too much time Banff isnt too far from Calgary so can be done, we did it that way saved arriving too early for our hotel that way.
Have fun you will love it.
I think we stayed at the Banff Inn. whilst we were there.
Visit Tony Romas for some nice ribs or steak the kids loved it there family friendly and not bad prices. We also went to a nice Mexican style place all the drinks were in jars 1/4litre 1/2 liter etc made a nice change and was popular that night.:hello: Lets all save a £ or two, lets all earn a £ or two, and lets all enjoy spending that £ or two wisely.

Hi,
We visit Whistler most years. Layers are key and as a poster above we switch between jeans + snow trousers depending on the temp (Occasionally I have managed a pencil skirt and thick tights with big boots)
Aldi sell some good base layers, especially the kids ones

That is a fantastic deal! Do you mind telling me where you got that from? I'm very interested in this! Is that for a week?0 -
Not wanting to hijack your thread overly, but could I ask any of the readers of this thread who've had experience if they know of any Icefield Parkway organised tours running through March 09?
I'm trying to plan a trip in the first quarter of 2009 but the open seasons of the three places I want to go are conspiring against me! Hotel de Glace (quebec) - Niagara (toronto) - Icefields Parkway (alberta). Might have to drop the Ice Hotel though and go later in the year if there are no tours of the Icefield Parkway. I want us to have the views and scenery of Icefields (not necessarily the entire rockies experience), but I'm not so keen on myself doing the driving on the off chance the weather might take a turn for the worse.0
