It says:-
Whoops. The scanner doesn’t work with your Web browser or operating system. (Opera)
Was going to try the scanner till it got to the bit where you had to install it.

Like most on line scanner you have to install an activeX, therefore you have to use IE. That's MS for you.Fran wrote:It says:-

I stumbled upon this yesterday and gave it a whirl, had to switch over to IE to run the virus scan.
I was surprised that it found one all be it low risk, considering that I have an upto date NAV and also run, Ewido, spybot, Adaware, and MS Antispyware.
May use it once a month or so.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
At first I was a bit wary: although it was plastered with Micro$oft logos and ads, it did look a bit like a dodgy website. However it is linked to and from Micro$oft websites, so it appears genuine enough...
Same problem with Opera, so I fired up Maxthon and it works OK. Even over 1Mb, it takes a while to download as it appears to be sizeable  (If you want to check that it's actually downloading in Windows NT or XP, fire up the Task manager using CTRL-ALT-DEL and watch the networking tab for download activity)
It's scanning as I write...Jumbo

I was going to give this a try until I read that it is only the beta version that will be free. As soon as they've sorted out any bugs/issues and release the full version, they are going to charge for this. I figured it wasn't worth the hassle. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

So they make an OS thats open to attack from day one and now on service pack2
with updates, and now theyre just about to jump on the "Protect your PC" bandwagon,
Mmm its no wonder I'll stick with other freeware.
This will be obsolete as soon as the "must have" :rotfl: Vista comes out nice try Microsoft
only about 4years too late :rolleyes:0 -
Don't know if Rex_Mundi means the online service, or the Micro$oft Ant-Spyware product. The latter has just been released in beta2, but the website says the release version will be free for pukka versions of windows. The FAQs for this service also say it will be free. Microsoft would have a nerve charging for this, though...
Oh, and a pint of bitter and twisted for intel, please... This product is for the 99% of PC users who don't have a clue that their PC is vulnerable. We have to pity that squillionaire Bill Gates, don't we...Jumbo

Microsoft has launched Windows One Care Live Security beta, an anti-virus and anti-spyware service for consumers only.
The service offers anti-virus, firewall, backup and recovery, as well as personal computer maintenance. Initially free, it will eventually be available for a subscription fee.
From THIS article
There is also another possible issue with this product if you already have any security products from Symantec (Norton), McAfee or Trend Micro.
Quote...............
Any suggestion that Microsoft's plans for consumer security software were to play happy families with the rest of the antivirus industry has been exploded as, on unveiling a beta of its first rival product, it says it is not compatible with either Symantec or McAfee. It also says Trend Micro products are incompatible.

Not twisted at all, just laughing at the lame attemp by Microsoft I dont bash them I just think its gross incompetence, how long have they taken with all that money, why didnt they just buy Norton years ago, at least they would of had a Protective department.
And people should go on a PC basics course before dipping into there pockets to buy a overpriced machine thats usually is used for gaming or e-mail and downloading !!!!!!.
Oh and collecting Viruses for a pastime, and if its for 99% of the PC users who dont know what to do, do you think they will be that competent to get a MS product from any other product, I think not.0
