hi, just a quick question, for the danda free eye test, are you obliged to buy glasses from them once you had the eye test, or can you just have the eye test? went on the site but i can't seem to find anything about that?? thanks
  • Had my eye test from a tesco store a few months back and there was no hard sell to get you to buy their glasses even though they had the bogof offer.
    I hate migraines.
  • Does anyone know whether you can have your eye test done at one opticians and contact lens check at another? I'd like to take up one of these free eye test offers but get my lenses via Specsavers by post. Thanks

I wasn't made to buy glasses at the same time, no.
  • I have had good deals by going to different opticians, one for the test (free), one for glasses, and then a different one for contact lenses, although I have since found online is cheaper for glasses. I am looking for a Tesco opticians in the West Midlands but I cant get the store locator to produce any results at all. Does anyone know of one?

  • thanks wwwsurfer. I didnt realise you could buy specs so cheaply on the net.
I ve just ordered a pair from https://www.topvaluespecs.co.uk to see what they are like. Total cost was 14.99. Pretty good as it cost me £9.90 just to get my last pair solder repaired when they broke.

If they are as good as they reckon I think I ll order several more pairs, one for every occiasion!

Does anyone know how these on line suppliers can be so cheap?

Online suppliers are are purely optical labs.
No High Street rent/rates, no retail staff and no optometrist and or dispensing optician fees to cover.
They purchase semi finished stock lenses, which are not expensive.
OK for single vision lenses but buy with caution if you require bifocal or varifocal lenses. Extra measurements are required for these types of lenses and these measurements can only be accurately obtained whilst wearing your chosen frame. In these cases the lab 'avarages' the measurements and they are often not accurate enough for satisfactory results.

In Scotland eye tests are free anyway, so would I still get the points?

closest one to me is about 6 miles away :(
  • It's great to see people talking about getting their eyes tested. It's something so many people seem to overlook (no pun intended). I actually work for RNIB (Royal National Institute for Blind People) and am constantly trying to make my friends more aware of their eye health.

One stat that I learnt through my work recently was that you can lose up to 40% of your eyesight before you even notice it. Scary isn't it?! Sight-threatening conditions suck as glaucoma can cause this reduction and there are no symptoms. A quick eye test can ensure your eyes are as health as they appear to be.

If you work at a computer all day your employer will pay for your eye tests so make sure you chase them up on it!

Just ask your optician if you'd like more information about eye health, or visit http://www.rnib.org.uk/happyeyes
